March 16, 2002

 

Lexington Catholic (32-2) vs. Paducah Tilghman (29-5) (Championship)

 

Lexington Catholic coach Danny Haney started the following lineup: 6-3 So. Demetrius Green, 6-4 Sr. Ryan Morton, 6-5 Sr. John Rpmpf, 5-11 Jr. Brian Smith, and 6-3 So. William Graham.  Paducah Tilghman coach Bill Chumbler countered with 6-5 Jr. Chris Clarke, 6-4 Sr. Orlandus Hill, 5-10 Sr. Ches Gibson, 6-0 Sr. Ryan Wagner, amd 6-1 Sr. Bryan Hamilton.

 

Lexington Catholic led 33-29 at halftime but exploded for 30 points in the third quarter to take a 63-44 lead at the end of three quarters on their way to an 83-53 victory.  Lexington Catholic outshot Paducah Tilghman 54.7%-33.3% and held a 42-27 rebound margin.  Lexington Catholic scored 23 points off 16 Paducah Tilghman turnovers.  Lexington Catholic’s pressure defense was the trigger for their offense all year and allowed the Knights to score points in bunches,

 

Demetrius Green led Lexington Catholic with 24 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and three steals.  William Graham added 19 points.  Ryan Morton concluded san excellent career with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  6-3 So. Harrison Morton came off the bench to record 12 points.

 

Orlandus Hill led Paducah Tilghman with 20 points.  Bryan Hamilton added 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
