Boyd County coach Pete Fraley started the following lineup: 5-6 Sr. Graci Borders, 5-6 So. Bailey Rucker, 5-8 So. Emma Borders, 5-6 Sr. Savannah Wheeler, and 5-7 So. Harley Paynter. Male coach Champ Ligon countered with 6-0 Sr. Joelle Johnson, 5-7 Sr. Destiny Combs, 5-11 Sr. Maya Crimes, 5-6 Fr. Kynidi Striverson, and 5-9 So. Alana Striverson.
What else could go wrong for Male entering this game? They were matched up with free-wheeling deadly outside shooting Boyd County led by the dynamic scorer Miss Basketball Savannah Wheeler capably aided by star Soph. Harley Paynter. Throw in the fact that Male discovered earlier in the week that they would be without the service of start 6-1 Sr. Cameron Browning who was diagnosed with mono. Coach Ligon announced that he would start Maya Crimes in this game.
Male raced out to an 18-9 first quarter lead on their way to a 74-56 victory over Boyd County. Boyd County could not find the range from the field and Male dominated points in the paint (40-22). Male shot 46.2% from the field including one of 11 from the three point line. The Lady Bulldogs connected on 25 of 32 free throws, pulled down 47 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 12 Boyd County turnovers. Boyd County shot 25% from the field including four of 30 from beyond the arc. The Lady Lions connected on 18 of 24 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 18 Male turnovers.
Maya Crimes led Male with 19 points including nine of 10 free throws, 14 rebounds, and five blocked shots. Destiny Combs added 19 points and six rebounds. Joelle Johnson recorded 13 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, and four blocked shots. Kynidi Striverson chipped in with 11 points.
Savannah Wheeler led Boyd County with 28 points (6-28 from the field) including two three point baskets, 14 of 14 free throws, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Harley Paynter added 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
