Franklin County vs. Southwestern (Girls)

February 9, 2019

 

Franklin County coach Joey Thacker started the following lineup: 5-8 Sr. Samareah Levarity, 5-6 Jr. Jasmine Simpson, 5-10 Fr. Patience Laster, 5-4 Sr. Shannon Brunette, and 5-6 So. Brooklynn Miles.  Southwestern coach Stephen D. Butcher II countered with 5-9 Sr. Kallie Sheron, 5-8 Jr. Kennedy Harris, 5-11 Jr. Regi Cundiff, 5-4 Jr. Jenna Wood, and 5-6 So. Alexa Smiddy.

 

Southwestern led by 15 points late in the third quarter but Franklin County outscored the Warriors 20-7 in the final quarter to earn a 64-63 come-from-behind victory over Southwestern.  Franklin County ran the clock down and Patience Laster hit what proved to be the winning basket with 15 seconds remaining on the clock.  Southwestern had one last opportunity but could not get the final shot to fall.

 

Franklin County shot 54.3% from the field including seven of 15 from the three point line.  The Lady Flyers connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and committed 10 turnovers.  Southwestern shot 44.7% from the field including seven of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Warriors connected on 14 of 32 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and committed eight turnovers.

 

Brooklynn Miles led Franklin County with 28 points including two three point baskets, six rebounds, and eight assists.  Patience Laster added 13 points and three rebounds.  Shannon Brunette recorded 12 points on four three point baskets. 

 

Regi Cundiff led Southwestern with 18 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Alexa Smiddy added 13 points including three three point baskets and three rebounds.  Kallie Sheron recorded 10 points and five rebounds.
