Eastern Kentucky University coach Dan McHale started the following lineup: 6-7 Sr. Zach Charles, 6-6 So. DeAndre Dishman, 6-9 Jr. Nick Mayo, 6-0 Sr. Dillon Avare, and 6-4 Fr. Dedric Boyd. Prairie View coach Byron Smith countered with 6-7 Jr. Iwin Ellis, 6-4 Sr. Shaquille Preston, 6-9 Sr. JD Wallace, 6-2 Jr. Gary Blackston, and 6-4 Sr. Zachary Hamilton.
Prairie View defeated Eastern Kentucky University by a score of 80-70. Turnovers were Eastern Kentucky’s downfall as they were down two point guards (Dujuanta Weaver and Asante Gist) due to injuries and committed 19 turnovers as a team. Prairie View shot 48.2% from the field including seven of 18 from the three point line. They connected on 19 of 23 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and committed nine turnovers. Eastern Kentucky University shot 50% from the field including four of 12 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 30 of 36 free throws and pulled down 26 rebounds.
Zachary Hamilton led Prairie View with 23 points including three three point baskets, four rebounds, and two steals. Gary Blackston added 19 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. 6-1 Jr. Dennis Jones recorded 14 points including seven of eight free throws and three assists.
Nick Mayo led Eastern Kentucky with 25 points including two three point baskets, nine of 10 free throws, six rebounds, and three assists. DeAndre Dishman added 13 points including seven of 10 free throws and five rebounds. Dedric Boyd chipped in with nine points.
