Gene called with not too much to report yet today, but did say it was very hot again so everyone's drinking lots of water. The patch trading continues to go "bazerk" in Gene's words. The boys have purchased all the extra patches they took along (approximately 1000) for continued trading. The Captain Crunch patches and items are very "hot" trading items. The "Friendship Gift" (bookmark poem entitled "Iowa") has been well received. These are being kept in the campsite and are being handed out to those who come inside.
Everyone will be attending the Opening Show tonight which they are looking forward to. All the boys seem to trying to see everything they can, are having a great time and are doing well. The phones there at the Jamboree have a surcharge that is charged to the phone cards, so if you haven't heard from your son as often as expected, this may be why. Some have run out of phone card minutes already also.
He did mention that the Istrouma Area Council has 8 different troops attending the jamboree and that their patches are really great! To view their patch set click HERE. Gene said these patches are not being traded at the jamboree but are open to the public to purchase via the web (orders must be placed by August 17.)
