Mad Maestro (PS2) Review

By Rin4ku

Console: PlayStation 2
Game Name: Mad Maestro
Developer: Eidos
Genre: Music
Number of players: 1
Pros: Good use of PS2 the analogs on the PS2 controller, Classical music
Cons: the Sore thumb you get after you beat it
Rated: E
Games Like it: Pop'n Music, FreQuency

An old, classical musical theater is going to be destroyed, and its up to you "TAKT" to save it using your musical powers to gather musicians and to hold a wonderful performance at the theater itself!

Gameplay:
As any Music Genre, you need a nice rhythm to beat the game. But this game has a big different feel! The PS2 has sensitivity on each controller and Eidos uses it very well by making you push the button at a certain pressure to make a beat. Red = Hard, Green = Medium, Blue = Tap. It uses 4 or 3 circles and each of them will have the color as mention before that you have to tap the button as hard as it says. To make it a bit harder, it sometimes has an arrow on the circle so you have to hold the direction and tap the circle at the same time (So it plays the certain part of your orchestra). It plays really great but when you start playing for a long time, your thumb will begin to Ache from all the button pushing with all certain types of sensitivity!.. Make sure you stretch your thumb in all for directions and crack it once or two so it will have nice flexibility!

Graphics:
The graphics seem to be pointed towards kids as it is blocky of some sort. But overall it is colorful, and has some unique environments! Almost every level has an alternate part both good and bad and its a must to see them all! (Lose on purpose if you have too!).

Sound:
The music is extremely great as it is an exact port of the classics from Mozart to Beethoven!. The sound also changes depending on the way you play too such as Pushing it hard will make the music play LOUD and pushing it soft will make it soft to where you have to put up your volume to hear it! TO get the most out of it, use it with a surround sound system as you'll feel like your in an actual Theater!
The only problem is that the voice acting was horrible and some of them sound like little kids doing a small play. it was kind of disappointed but voice acting these days on Videogames are horrible!

Replay Value:
The game has much to unlock after you beat the game! Each song has a "Melody" which is like the bonus stage of every level. then it also has a mini game to where you have to do a song and the background will change depending on how good you play the minigame!.. its worthwhile to unlock all this stuff but playing the minigame is kinda small and not all that fun to waste your 2 minutes on...

Graphics:

The graphics aren't the best ever, but the backgrounds will ultimately make up for it!

7.5

Sound:

Classical music is great!.. and the way they did was the best since the button sensitivity will change the sounds in such great ways!.. best with Surround sound!

8.5

Game Play:

Keep the pace with button sensitivity and arrow pushing with classical music in the background!..

8.5

Replay Value:

Unlock Minigames and get A ratings on all the songs are worth some while.. but after that's done.. it is done!

7.5

Overall:

If your a music gamer, its in your collection, if you enjoy classical music, its in your collection, If your a natural gamer, give it a rental first, if you like it, its in your collection ;)

8.0
