Eresus Spider

The Eresidae family of spiders contains over a hundred tropical and sub-tropical species, but is absent from America and Australia. They do bear some resemblance to the Salticidae. They have the same thickset silhouette, stocky legs and triple row eye arrangement. In some species the female can grow up to 2 inches, the males are generally only half the size of the female. The male, shown above does not show his beautiful coloring until his final molt.
