The Prairie ecozone is the home to many different kinds of species. The Prairie ecozone is home to almost half the amount of the total number of ducks in North America. Fish are not in abundance because pesticides used at farms destroy their habitants. The fish that are there are being over-fished by recreational and commercial fishers. Other animals that live in the Prairie ecozone are Black-tailed prairie dog, black bears, moose, the beaver, red foxes and more. River valleys provide excellent sheltered habitats, especially during the harsh winter season. Bison used to roam in the forest area, but they soon became extinct in the area. Many animals are becoming extinct in the ecozone because of agriculture. Agriculture takes up the land and uses chemicals which changes mating habits and damages the food supply for the animals. Four vertebrate species have already become extinct. This is the diversity of wildlife in the Prairie ecozone.
