This is generally the most common and most socially acceptable piercing for either gender. Girls often have their ears pierced at a young age, even as babies. Initially, they're pierced as a 18g or 16g, but can be gauged larger as the piercing heals.

Use saline solution (1/8 to 1 tsp sea salt to 8 oz. water) or prepackaged care solutions usually found anywhere ears are pierced
