An "industrial" is two or more piercings connected by a single piece of jewelry. In normal usage it refers to an ear piercing whereby two helix piercings are connected by a single straight barbell.
While most industrials are a straight bar connecting two helix piercings, perhaps 15 degrees off horizontal, they are also often done vertically (sometimes more than one, becoming an ear cage) or through piercings other than the helix, such as rook to helix piercing or conch piercings.
Other common industrial piercings include the navel industrial.
