Thought I'd better add some disclaimers:
* All of the tales I'm spinning are based upon facts of some sort.
* Most of the tales will be at least 50% factual.

The above illustration was drawn by Jon Dahlstrom as part of an article in Surfer Mag., written by Ron Stoner.

The illustration shows us - me, Stoner, Jeff Kruthers, Bill Fury, and Mark Hammond in my 16' boat.

We were on our way back from Cojo, and we had the pleasure of getting caught in gale force winds, in the kelp.

Of course, the motor overheated - then caught on fire -

We were well on our way to San Clemente Island, when I spotted a train going by.

I tied a red towel to an oar, and waved it, per the illustration.

A guy in the train's caboose saw our predicament, and called the Coast Guard.

We obviously did not want to spend the night somewhere in the Eastern Pacific, so we all bailed out. I was the first one out, 'cause the captain NEVER goes down with his ship!

We paddled ashore at Ranch House (I think) and were rescued shortly.

- More on this adventure to follow.
