How Roller Coasters Stop

Cars and automobiles have brakes to make them stop. Roller Coasters have no brakes. If you want to get off in the middle of a ride, you can't because it has no brakes to stop. Only particular track parts have brakes. "Skid" brakes have break rails that are between the running rails. They are controlled by a computer or ride operator. The brakes come up and push against the break paks mounted under each coaster to help slow or stop the ride. The "squeeze" brake is where brake bars squeeze against brake fins put under or on the sides of the train. This brake also helps the ride to slow down or stop.
