Well, I needed a final project for Writer's Craft, and I had written a lot of poems that didn't make it into the second anthology. So, to make a long story short, I wrote a few more up, tossed some old stuff in, interviewed myself (inside reference), and wound up with a 93% on the ISU.

This is actually the first poem that I ever wrote for my ex, Jenn. I don't particularly like it, but I guess it'll always have a small place in my heart.

Free to go
Anywhere
Love brings you back
* * *
I protect you
- In my mind -
You need no protection
* * *
Can't express
Can't profess
Can't shed light onto
How much it means to me
* * *
Getting old
Getting tired
But still love you
All the same

I wrote this quite a while ago, but it rhymed, so I didn't put it in TPA, v. 2.0. But, since this one is all of my "unpublished" work, it finally has a place.

The stars don't seem to shine so bright

Spend too much time alone at night

The world seems to spin so fast.

Wish I could make each moment last.

* * *

Chorus

I think that you're beautiful

I'm glad that you're mine

I think that you're beautiful

Love you for all time

* * *

Make my heart stop in midbeat

You always sweep me off my feet

I wonder if you really see

What it is you're doing to me

* * *

Chorus x2

I was going through a bit of a phase when I wrote this one. I think I'm over it now, though.

Loved and

lost

Never to love

again

* * *

Your world

reversed

replaced

dest

royed

* * *

Out of the night

proper

new

constructed

* * *

To hold

To have

To love

For

Ever

* * *

Never to leave

But to keep for time

Jericho

I kinda think that the idea behind this one is cool. The formatting on this site doesn't really have the same effect as the way I originally wrote it, so, to help you understand the point, I've bolded the important letters.

My walls fall d

My defenses destroyed

Wave a white flag

Surrender to love

I wrote this while Fuel's Hemhorrage In My Hands was running through my head (great song, by the way). This, by the way, is really getting into my newer stuff.

I see

Love bleed

From your hand

again

* * *

Lead me

Lead me

Home again

Back to my land again

* * *

Seems far away

This life of ours

Far

away

* * *

I feel

I feel

Pain for you

Love for you

Lust for you

Again

* * *

Don't leave

Don't leave

I can't stand

I can't stand

Alone

I'd been feeling pretty crappy for about three hours before I wrote this, and as soon as I did, I cheered right up. I think I'm starting to like this poetry gig.

One day

out

of

the

blue

* * *

In a darkened room

You lying

there

Lying safe with me

* * *

Take me out

of this world

Hold me to your

chest

* * *

High above

Kiss your lips

Bring you down

Down to sleep

Down to earth

and me

© December 19, 2000, Mike Fish

Have you noticed how often I use the word 'again' in my poems?

Hold me tightly

Chest to chest

I'm in your grasp

again

* * *

Why can't you just

simply see

You're all the world

to me.

Stay

I'm not really a fan of being alone. Stupid fear of abandonment. Oh well, it's my first poem of the New Year, and I made it all the way through without saying 'again'.

I admit

I can't deny

You're the only one

that I

have ever

really

truly

Felt a love as deep and

p u r e

* * *

You're the one

I dream

about

I can't stand to

be

without

you beside me

next to my heart

* * *

With you here

my world is warm

You

in my arms

My life is

Rich

Hold me close

And stay with me

I've never written a self-reflective poem, but this one just happens to mention me. It's a poem basically about how my relationship with Jenn had grown.

I wasn't there to

catch you

if you

fell

* * *

When I was,

I didn't know,

I couldn't see.

* * *

You showed me

love

You pulled me out,

but still there were

d o u b t s

* * *

But you drew me,

drew me out

grew

and grew together

* * *

You abandoned the past,

You wanted the future

Our future

Our times

Our memories.

Credit where credit is due, I guess. I wrote this one after one of the most...inspirational nights of my life, but the tune behind the poem is from Hey Jealousy by the Gin Blossoms.

About six months has

gone by

Since it started

you

and

I

* * *

If I had seen this over a year ago

Where do you

think we'd

be?

* * *

And it's come that

I love you

more

Than I thought that I could

before

* * *

If you'd said we'd be here

a year ago

I wouldn't have believed

* * *

But now I've cried

the whole thing out

Not a

single

doubt

I love you more than

yesterday

Will you please say "I do"?

Come Around

Well, this one's got another Gin Blossoms song to thank, Mrs. Rita. They keep saying "Come Around", so, it turned into a poem. Neat, huh?

Are you coming

'round?

Why? Because I need

to feel your

touch

Need to be held

I'm in no shape to be left

to my mind's own

fun and

games

Will you come around?

And hold me next

to you

So I can cry into your arms
