(for jenni-chan, about the only think that makes sense in my life)
Here's my second poetry anthology, the one I put a lot of thought and heart into. I didn't think I'd write another poem as long as I lived, and I didn't until I came into Mr. Gravelle's class again, and found out that there'd be a poetry unit (damn it!). The only difference is, with this one, I just let my heart come pouring out, mostly because the person most of these were about actually knew I was writing them.

We've broken up since then, but I still like the poems.

Red

Heart, rose, fire
Warms a mind
Ignites a soul
Re-kindles a love
* * *
Wrapped, curls of crimson
Eyes, peering over glass
A towering inferno
Tame to touch
* * *
In my arms,
A warming grasp
One flame
One person
One love

...You
A thousand lost tomorrows made me cry
I'd love you long after I die
Even on my lowest day
I still can't help but say
* * *
Do you have any idea?
Do you have any clue?
I've tried to tell you
I can't tell if it got through
* * *
A rose petal on the floor
Your perfume still on the door
You still control my dreams
But to me, you know, it seems
* * *
This may not be the perfect thing
There's still the occasional sting
If you ever need a shove
Just remember how much I love...

Grace
I actually wrote this for Mr. Jordan's baby girl, Claire Grace.

Fall to earth
A
white
descent
* * *
Into
arms wide open
of a father,
mother
* * *
Loving
Caring
holding, laughing, rocking
* * *
She smiles,
She's safe,
She's home

This is a completely pointless poem, called an 'extended metaphor'. It was busy-work, so that's why I did it. It means just about nothing. Although I do like chocolate milk.

I want you
I need you
Your coolness
Your wholeness
* * *
I hold you in my hands
You're firm, but relenting
You're smooth
You're fluid
* * *
I bring you to my lips,
Draw you nearer,
And feel you trickle down my throat
Every morning, I long for this.
* * *
When you're through
I toss you aside
And replace you the next day.
God I love chocolate milk.

You might think this is about two people embracing, or something sweet, along those lines. Wrongo! It's about a fight.

Passion
The heat
The force
The gravity pulls
us
together
* * *
Full forward,
a hand
breaks
the air
* * *
Fly together
Fly apart
Reconnect
Fall to
the ground

I don't really know what this is about. Just a general poem.

An enigma
A mystery
Closed
Shut off
Unknown
* * *
Ask me,
But
Be careful
Of what you'll
Find out

This is one of the few poems I have ever written that I like. I like the short and sweet ones.

Open a vein,
Bleed of your
Imagination

Hmmm...maybe I was wrong. I do kinda like this one, too. I really do adore the last four lines. Just the flow and the way they sound are really what makes me like this poem.

You'd think I would notice
I guess you're right
I never thought it'd go this far
this fast
* * *
You're all I wanted
You're all I need
I want you now
To have
To hold
To love
* * *
Everything falls
in place
When you're
Around
* * *
I really can't handle
The loss of you
What do you say?
Just
marry
me
now

Warning! Metaphor alert! Figure it out.

It spills over
Won't make me cry
At least
not
in
unhap
piness
* * *
Hits the floor
Into a pool
Runs rivers through
This universe
Of ours
* * *
Can't be compressed
Hardly confined
Love powers the world,
These ordinary lives.

Well...aren't you afraid of being alone?!

Hold your bear tightly
Don't be a
fraid
I'll never leave you
alone
at home
at night

Stupid bloody metaphors. I did more of these than I thought.

I am black
I am white
I'm hidden
X-posed
* * *
A sinner
A liar
Honest,
a saint
* * *
Fearless,
Afraid
Painful
Pained
* * *
Not one but
Many
Not fully developed
Just slightly glimpsed.

Warning! Gushy love poem!

Sends shivers
Down my spine
Through my heart
Out my body
* * *
One second
or
One lifetime
A moment without
Is eternity

© November 14, 2000, Mike Fish

This is actually a continuance of the next one, I just put it here...well...cuz.
Something new
Has come around
Somewhere between
Heaven
And
Earth
* * *
It hangs by a thread
Above oblivion
One slip, lost to
nothingness

© November 14, 2000, Mike Fish

I really dislike this poem a lot. I wrote it, and was barely able to read it afterwards. I'm over those particular issues now, but I still don't like it.

He left
Broken
Shattered
Battered
Destroyed
* * *
I picked you up,
Dusted you off,
Mended you
Tended you
* * *
You changed
4 me
with me
around me

© November 14, 2000, Mike Fish

I hate this one even more than the last one, but, again, I'm at least able to read it.

He was shrouded in lies
Only said what you
needed to
hear
* * *
Left you in your hell,
Against a wall
A choice:
Your life
You anted up
