The Mountains
You've been walking aimlessly for awhile, the sun blazing down on you. The ground is slowly inclining, making it harder and harder for you to walk. The sun is driving you insane; so relentlessly hot. You trudge on against your will; an unknown feeling drawing you forward. Suddenly darkness falls and you look up. The sun is blocked by an enormous mountain! All you can see before you is a chain of mountains and the tallest stretches so far up it is half hidden by the clouds. You blink in shock and hastily make an effort to climb up the hillside. Jagged rocks jut out in groups, more and more you see, as you rise higher. Finally, you reach flat ground and sigh in relief. Straight ahead of you is the base of the greatest mountain but otherwise the area seems empty. The lush green grass squishes under your feet, a clear sign you are in the moist highlands. There is hardly a space longer than three feet without rocks. The jutting stones make a perfect hiding place for just about anybody no matter their size. "Enjoying the view?"
You spin about to see Mistress Reaper descend on the back of a gorgeous white pegasus. The equine whinnies as she touches down and folds her gorgeous violet wings. You greet her with a worn smile and she tosses you a canteen as she dismounts. Blessed water! You drink your fill and hand the bottle back to her. She smiles in return and the pegasus approaches the both of you. The creature's ears flicker forward and back as she seizes you up. She seems hesitant at first, pawing at the earth lightly and twitching her wings, but she inches closer and closer to you. You hold out your hands and nudges your palm briefly, jerks back and then watches you intently. You smile but offer no other movement. Satisfied, she approaches you and relaxes. "Seems like Mei fancies you, traveller. She is a breed of pegasus from The Nameless Forest. For those who enjoy searching for new creatures to bring home, it is a fine place." She flags her tail and exchanges a glance with the pegasus. Mei bobs her head and approaches you. "It would seem that Mei would like to take you to the less accessible places around this mountain range. You can go with her or go on your own way. Whatever you choose, she'll wait here for you." She smirks and you look at your available paths. Just as you turn around to inquire how the Mistress plans to get home, she's gone. Mei stands peacefully waiting for your decision.
