"Sunburst (Deschutes River Dee)" is the fifth and last in the Deschutes River Dee Series designed by Oregon fly fisherman and tyer Andrew Marshall. I mentioned last week that the married wings are an element more familiar in Classic Atlantic Salmon flies and and that they add a classic touch to these flies. They are great looking flies, yet effective. I was surprised to find out tonight that these flies were designed for the smaller Deschutes, near Olympia, WA., not the famed Oregon waters. Although he is from Oregon, he has a relative that he visits near the Olympia stream quite often and not surprisingly, likes to flyfish it.

The flies in this series are quite remarkable and I was as excited about presenting them as Monte was in tying them. Thank you Andrew Marshall and Monte Smith.

You can see more of the flies tied by Monte Smith and many of his own designs at The Flies of Monte Smith.
