The Infinite Dress Email Exchange

The Infinite Dress Email Exchange

6/10/99: In response to one of my updates (May 17), I got a couple emails advising me to NOT get the infinite dress, which I was saying was so coo and all that. I thought it would be amusing to post it on my page and possibly have a kind of series going, if I ever run into any other interesting email exchanges, such as this one and the one before it: Email exchange with an idiot. *hint* This is encouragement to people who just stumbled upon my page to email me something wonderfully insightful that I simply, absolutely, gotta post on my page!! :)

Hi there, Claire (is that your name?)

I know this is weird, I don't know you, you don't know me, but hey...

I was doing a search on the Web for "Infinite Dress" to see what other thought of the thing, your page came up (under Infoseek), you wrote something about the dress at the bottom of the page, cool, your diary on the web for all to see! About the dress-DON'T BUY IT!!!!!! I ordered the damn thing, and yeah, OF COURSE it looks good in the infomercial, but when I put it on and tried the styles, it looked nothing better than hideous. There's only one style I like, but I keep having to adjust it so the straps don't move out of place. There's no way you can make one dress into thirty without comprising somewhere, in this case, it's good taste.

Anyways, thought I'd put in my two cents...

Cheers, Joanne :D

Hello Jeannie,

The thing is, most of the styles, they look good if you're standing 10 feet away from the person. In that case, the dress is convertible. But get closer than 10 feet, and you can see all the bunching, wrinkles and folds in the fabric. There are two styles that I would wear that do look good, (in fact, I wore one of them to the Christmas ball at work) but there is no doubt that the dresses' styles would have been better if they were specifically made in that design, not because it could be manipulated to become that style. The true test showed when while I was dancing, the dress straps started to shift, nearly baring my boobs. Not good, since my dude and I were dancing right next to the table where the board of directors were sitting, including my boss. My guy was pretty quick though, he pulled the straps back into place before anyone saw..

If you want to read a rather sarcastic review of the dress, paste this URL: http://www.ocweekly.com/ink/archives/98/6best98-5.shtml into your location toolbar and click, the part about the dress is pretty close to the bottom of the page; you have to scroll down quite a bit.

And no, I don't mind if you put my e-mail on your page, it's OK if you include my name too, I don't mind. If I can prevent others from wasting their money on the dress then I'm happy. :) :) :)

Cheers! Joanne

Joanne,

sorry for delay in response..but for the past....1-1/2 weeks..i've been studying/worrying about finals and doing em too!! so that's why i haven't been around to reply. :)

thank you for permission to post your email on my page...i'm hoping to get a trend going on..with email exchanges..I had a particularly funny one with someone who read my yahoo profile and thought that because i put myself as having a 'long-term relationship'..that that meant i WANTED one..well, i sent him a few emails back and got him to apologize for being stupid..so i win. ha ha!! i put the exchange on my page. Hehehe.

i read the review of the infinite dress on the link you supplied..hilarious stuff...yeah that's the thing with the infomercial..they don't let you see what it looks like close up..everything's at a distance and that makes a BIG difference. :)

> P.S. Do you want to see something cute? I figure since you're female
> you might like something cute and furry and adorable. Check out

virtual pets? last year i picked up a whole bunch of em...but i dunno where they went because i wasn't as good with online stuff as i am now. *L* i've been thinking of getting them back somehow and picking up some others..who knows. :P i might have a virtual pet nursery on my page. *LMAO*

but i guess that's all from my end..even though i only have one final left doesn't mean that i can goof off yet. ;-)

take care,

jeanny :D

Heyyyy Jeanny!!!

How R U? You know what, today I had a chance to check out out the other parts of your website today, you know, I REALLY like it, it's awesome!!! It's cool to see pics of you and the people in your life. I really liked that pic of your mum, where she's wearing the traditional dress and pointy hat, the one taken from behind. That is GREAT pic, should be part of a photog's portfolio or something. excellent angle and composition. And your page, the "Infinte Dress Exchange", what a gas, I started to laugh, and people around me are now glaring at me (I'm at the school computer lab). I like it, and thanx very very much for the kind note at the bottom, yes, I LOVE YOU ALL TOO!!!!!!!!

A couple things though, at the very top of the page where it says, "I got a couple emails advising me to NOT get the infinite dress, which I was saying was so coo and all that" I think you meant to say "cool", it's missing an "l". And at the bottom of the page, where I gave you the URL of the page of the sarcastic review of the dress, I guess since you cut it out pasted it into the toolbar, there's no URL on the page! Right now it says "If you want to read a rather sarcastic review of the dress, paste this URL: into your location..." So here is the link again: http://www.ocweekly.com/ink/archives/98/6best98-5.shtml You might want to add that you have to scroll to the bottom of the page, it's the third category from the bottom, it took me awhile to find it.

Hey, I'll bet you watch the Simpsons, you do the "D'oh!!" thing! It's my favourite show, it's such a great social commentary.

The page on your website that has the Infinite Dress things, where it was part of what looked like diary or journal entries, I found it by going to www.infoseek.com, typing "Infinite Dress" in the dialog box, then when you hit return, of the results it shows yours is the seventh one down. But to make it easier for you, (because I'm in a good mood now!) here is the direct URL, just copy it and paste it into the location toolbar of your web browser, and you should see your page. https://www.angelfire.com/wa/ClaireLuv/index6.html

But no wonder you can't find it, there doesn't seem to be a link from your website. I found yours indirectly, through Infoseek. Maybe the link is outdated, or something.

Cheers! Jo :D

Subject: i think it's done?

joanne,

thanks for your comments on my page and finding my typos..most of em were on the nose, but i DO purposefully say "COO" many times, so that was intentional...but thanks for pointing out that i 'hid' the url you gave me...i was making it into a hyperlink, but forgot to put the magic word! (the one you click to go der) so i fixed that.

i think the page is about done now..thanks again for sending me my old emails back. i think this'll be the last edition in this 'series' we had going..it was fun!

as for the way my page is organized...everything is on: www.angelfire.com/wa/ClaireLuv/index2.html...click on the house at the bottom of any of my pages and it'll take you there...and from THERE...is a link to check out old entries ( index3.html) or read up on more current events (today.html)...as well as other pages i made up.

well, i guess i should go..one last final!! KIT..lemme know how that dress is doing! ;-)

thanks for everything,

jeanny

ps: i got the biggest laugh after doing that infoseek search!!! *LOL*

Thanks Joanne, we love you!!! :)
