Chapter three

Mysterious friends

Nicolaus and Aarie walked into the  hall and down it.  Several paintings lined the walls.  Nicolaus looked at as many as he could.  One painting caught his attention in the fullest.  Aarie was next to him on his right and to the right of her was the painting.  A little girl about five, and a woman about twenty,  stood facing each other.  The woman looked down at the girl in a loving motherly way and the girl looked up at the woman as if she was her idol.  There was an understanding between the two like they knew who they were and what they had to do.  They both wore similar elaborate dresses, almost like the cloths of royalty.

The woman wore a beautiful crown upon her head.  The crown was small, more like a tiara than a crown yet beautiful in it’s own.  The little girl had a beautiful broach in her hair that was done up in curls.  They stood on a balcony over looking a sea with the crescent moon shinning over it between the two royals.

“This woman Madam…she looks like Lady Orianna.  But this child…she looks at this child as if she was her mother.” Aarie came over to Nicolaus and looked over his shoulder.

“That is because that is her daughter.” She smiled when she saw how confused Nicolaus got.  “I painted these paintings.”

“Is this a real woman and her daughter?”

“Yes.  These people are real.”

“But I’m certain that this is Orianna.” Aarie leaned over his shoulder and whispered in his ear.

“It is.”  Nicolaus looked at Aarie eyes wide open.  She walked to a door and knocked on it then turned back to Nicolaus.  “He waits.  Are you ready My lord?”

Nicolaus nodded, looked once more at the painting then joined Aarie at the door.
