Local News:
MARCH OF DIMES WALK AMERICA:
Our final total for this year's "March of Dimes Walk America" was $516. I would like to thank these members for donations, selling candy, and/or walking at the event. Mary Ann Winsley, James Winsley, Marilyn Romero, Ron Romero, Becca Ostman, Richard Hewitt and Ray/Brad Goodman. Also I would like to thank all those crewmembers who bought candy at the meetings.
Duke Ward of the Phazion Corp Passes Away:
Sad news near the end of May 2003 on one of our local Trekies: Ambassador Duke Ward of the Star Trek Club "The Phazion Corp" passed away from Cancer. I was down in Florida during the week he passed. Duke Ward and the Phazion Corp were best remembered for building things. They built the "Time Arch" for the Federation Science Exhibit and a number of games for kids. Duke was a larger than life person, always thinking of ideas and things to make. Those of us who knew him will miss him, but we will never forget him.
Money Making Event:
On the weekend of June 28 and 29 a small away team mustered up at my house to earn money by repainting the numbers on my homeowners association parking places. Those members who helped: Comm John Winsley, Capt Mary Ann Winsley, Sgt James Winsley, Capt Marilyn Romero, LT Ron Romero, RADM Richard Hewitt and Cmdr Ray/Brad Goodman. There are still about 38 places I have to touch up or do because cars were not moved for us, but in a few weeks the USS Jamestown will receive a check for $349 for this. I would like to thank everyone who helped. Next year they want us to repaint the lines for the parking places. Remember events like this keep our dues from going up.
BLOOD FEUD III:
We had the latest meeting on the Blood Feud. Mike Romero and I have been working on the flyer. The Bat’Leth is creating this year’s logo. The USS Maat has totally joined the event so the Blood Feud will be at Patrick Henry Mall and Pembroke Mall on Nov 29. We are scheduled to have a meeting with the Patrick Henry Mall people on July 25.
RECRUITING EVENT – FANTASCI MINI CONVETION AT THE CHESAPEAKE VA LIBRARY:
The Chesapeake Main Library contacted me about coming back for their second annual Mini Convention on July 26 from 9 AM to 5 PM. I have informed him we will be there. We plan to bring the ship’s display and run movies again. I have picked up some more Next Gen Video Tapes. If you can help out at this event let me know.
STARFLEET:
At the Quark’s Casino Royale Night I presented the check for $57 for the Shuttle Columbia Fund that we had been collecting for the last three months to the STARFLEET Treasurer, Commodore Tammy Willcox. I would like to thank everyone who helped raise this money, either by donating items for the raffle or buying raffle tickets.

EXECUTIVE OFFICER’S LOG:
STARDATE 10307.01
CAPT MARILYN ROMERO Reporting. . .
Greetings, crew of the Mighty Jamestown! Summer has officially begun, and as usual the Jamestown crew has been very busy. We have already held our annual picnic and Casino Night. If you missed either, you missed a great time. We were joined at our picnic by the Bat’Leth, who entertained us with a preview of their drill team which will be performing at the Klingon Feast at Shore Leave. No injuries were reported, but there were a couple of close calls. This year’s Casino Night was an even bigger success than last year. The USS Jamestown, USS Maat and the IKV Bat’leth co-hosted the event which benefited the Animal Aid Society. Over $400 was raised in addition to other donations including food items for the Battered Women’s Shelter, pet food for the Animal Aid Society, stamps for the Stampede, and coupons for the OCP.
We also worked to add to the ship’s treasury this past month by painting parking space numbers for Commodore Winsley’s homeowner’s association. Yes, I said Commodore! John has been officially promoted to Commodore and Richard Hewitt has been promoted to Rear Admiral. Please join me in congratulating them both.
In May, Mary Ann Winsley and I gave a surprise birthday party for John. I believe he was truly surprised. We held it at my house so he wouldn’t suspect anything. We had a variety of people attend—members of the Jamestown, Bat’Leth, Starfleet Atlantic, and co-workers and friends of the Winsleys. A good time was had by all.
We still have quite a few vacancies on the Command Staff. They are: Chief Operations Officer, Chief Security Officer, Chief Petty Officer of the Command, Commandant of the Cadet Corps, and Assistant Department Chiefs for all departments except the Marines. If you are interested in any of these positions, please contact either John or myself.
That’s all I have for now. Live long and prosper
.

NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
STARDATE: 10307.11
RADM Richard W. Hewitt, Recording. . .
First off, to Lee and the rest of the crew I am sorry that I missed putting the answers to Lee's Trivia Corner from the issue before. I am putting them in this issue but they will be the last once from Lee as he is no longer with us.
Again, I need stories and artwork from you, the members of the Jimmy-T, to use in the STARDATE this coming year. So, start writing now and get those stories and artwork in to us as soon as you can! If you have some pictures you would like to see in the STARDATE, just get them to me and I will see if I can use them in the next issue. You can give them to me as a normal picture, or if you can scan them and send them to me, I will have a head start on getting them into the newsletter.
As always, I need your stories, artwork, and reports turned in to me NO LATER THAN THE 20th OF THE MONTH PRIOR TO PUBLICATION. For those dates just check the first column on the 2nd page of the STARDATE. It is very easy to get your reports, stories, and artwork to me. 1) Just give it to me at a meeting. Please type it, or put it on a disk. If on a disk, please have it formatted for a PC and save it as a text file (*.txt). 2) E-mail it to VEKMA@COX.NET (this is our XO Marilyn Romero's email address). Once she has reviewed it, she will send it to me.

TREASURER'S REPORT
For April, May and June
CMD Brad Goodman
The financial report for the past three months reflects charitable efforts by the crew. In April, payments from the chapter’s account exceeded $334. The majority of this went to support the March of Dimes. May saw an expense to reserve a shelter for the picnic in June. More recently, a check was written to a fund honoring the crew of the space shuttle Columbia.
Over the past three months, four individual and three family members have rejoined Starfleet. Additional funds were collected through candy sales and raffle activity.
As of June 20, the club had $492.60 in the treasury, not including funds in the ship’s store. We are looking forward to a fund-raising activity at the end of the month, in addition to Quark’s Casino Night On June 21.
Beginning Balance: April 1 $743.19
Ending Balance: May 31 $534.60

Reporting…
HI Fellow Crewmembers…
These past few months have been busy for us. Jimmy came home from College in April and made the Dean’s List (again). I want to thank everyone who came out for John’s 50th surprise birthday party. He was totally surprised. Last month was our annual club picnic. The turnout was great with the car races, boat races, water wars, card games, food and we saw the Klingons drill. I think everyone had a worderful time. Casino night turnout was, I think, better than last year and the next one will be even better. Last week the club had an opportunity to make some money for our treasury by painting the numbers on John and my homeowner’s association parking lots. Now for the serious side. I know everyone wants to have a good time, but when we have an opportunity to earn money for the club it is always the same small number of people who show up to help. This is money for our club so we can do things like the picnic, anniversary dinner and more. So please help out if you can. Which brings me to another question. If there is something you all want to do, speak up and let us know. That is all for now.
Signing off for now…
Captain Mary Ann Winsley

OIC 108th MSG
Well, here it is reporting time again. Wow, that's hard to believe. Summer is again upon us and I'm out of school as is the rest of the strike group, so hopefully we will be able to do some things over the summer. One project I want to do is a non fictional history of Starfleet Marines on the Jamestown. I know I can get some of the information from the Marine history page and already have to some degree. But I'd like to ask for help from members who have been on the ship for some time and may be able to give me some information on Marine groups on the ship in the past. I've already talked to Richard about possibly seeing some of the old Stardates to get reports from previous Marine commanders, and I hope to do that this summer after I narrow down the time frame of when the first strike group was formed. I would still appreciate any other help I could get on this project as well. Please, if anyone is interested in helping me, you can email me at LB206@aol.com.
Well, that's it for this month. Semper Fi.

RADM Richard W. Hewitt,
THIRD OFFICER Recording . . .
Well, I am back. I have been working on some recruiting and thinking about how to get the word out on "The Blood Feud III." As for "Quark's Casino Night," we got covered in the Daily Press on July 6. They did a good story on the evening and our ship. I hope you had a change to read it, but if you did not I have a copy of it you can look at. I will try to do this job the best I can. If you have something you think is important and that I might be able to use, just let me know.
The Third Man, over and out!

Quark’s Casino Royale Night. . .
Stardate: 10307.01
Commodore John Winsley Reporting . . .
Hi Crew.
Instead of having a canned Food report I am combining it with the Casino Night report. On June 21 starting at 7 PM the USS Jamestown, USS Maat and IKV Bat’Leth held the Second Annual Quark’s Casino Royale. This is a continuation of the USS Maat’s Casino Night they have been running for a number of years. Last year we made $385 for the American Red Cross. This year I am happy to say we made $415 for Animal Aid and delivered the dog food donations to Animal Aid this morning. Following is a list of dog food donations: 24 - 3.5 oz cans, 12 - 3.2 oz cans, 10 - 5.3 oz packets, 2 - 4# bag, 1 - 8# bag, 1 - 20# bag, 1 - 40# bag, 1 - 14# box of biscuits (Bones). We also collected 276 food items for the Hampton Battered Women's Shelter and about $5,066.62 worth of coupons for the Overseas Coupon Program.
First Prize was won by a combination from the IKV Bat’Leth, they won the DS9 Season 3 DVD set. Sgt James Winsley won Second Prize and got the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. Everyone had a great time. I do not know the estimate of how many people were there, be I think we had over 100 people, which beats last year’s 85. Great job for everyone who helped, and I hope everyone had as good of a time as I did.
Here is a link the the Daily Press Article on the Casino Night:

SCHOOL OF BORG TECHNOLOGY!
This School is under the direction of Shawn Gregory and focuses entirely on ... well ... Borg Technology.
Tuition for this course is $2.00 which will cover the cost of the printing and mailing of exams and certificates. The Course will be free to those who take it entirely via e-mail.
Here is a brief introduction by Shawn:
"My name is Shawn Gregory. I first joined Star Fleet back in the early 1990's and belong to the chapter down in Panama City, Florida as Chief Science Officer, and I rejoined Star Fleet back in March of 2002. I belong to the U.S.S. Prevailing Wind (NCC-74667), the local fan club based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and have been promoted to full Lieutenant and Deputy Chief Science Officer. I have come up with a new School that hopefully lots of you will enjoy taking. The name of the course is School of Borg Technology I came across this while visiting the Star Trek website and noticed that there was no School for this, so I decided to try it and see what responses I get."

MEMBER CONTRIBUTION
"Anime-zing!"
A column by Corporal Adam
"Fory-san" Zalonis
At the 75th Annual Academy Awards, Spirited Away became the first Japanese anime to win an Oscar for best-animated film. Though performing poor business in the United States, critics praised Spirited Away as a masterpiece. When it was originally released in Japanese theaters in the summer of 2001, it became the highest grossing film of all time in that country, even toppling Titanic. This surreal and imaginative film took audiences on yet another magical trip into the ingenious mind of its director, Hayao Miyazaki. Like many of his films, Spirited Away encompasses moving thematic elements like honor and loyalty, emotional and lovable characters, and detailed natural settings that can only be described as breathtaking. Devoted followers of his work have even dubbed him as the "Walt Disney of Japan" (ironically, a title he really does not appreciate).
Mr. Miyazaki was born on January 5, 1941 in the town district of Tokyo. After seeing the animated film, Hakujaden (translates to Legend of the White Serpent) while in senior high school, he became totally confident that he wanted to become a comic artist. Other inspirations were the cartoons of the 1930's by Max and Dave Fleischer and The Snow Queen directed by Russian cartoonist Yuri Norstein. After graduating from Toyotama High School, Miyazaki attended Gakushuin University where he enrolled into their children's literature research club (the nearest thing to a manga group at that time). In the late sixties, he was a key animator for Toei Doga where he worked on such anime classics as Puss in Boots, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, Animal Treasure Island, and The Adventures of Hols, Prince of the Sun (directed by friend and future collaborator, Isao Takahata). In 1971, he moved to A Pro then Nippon Animation two years later. While working for Tokyo Movie Shinsha (TMS), Hayao was given his first directing job of the first Lupin the 3rd TV series, based upon the manga by Monkey Punch (pseudonym for Kazuhiko Katou). Later, he directed the one hundred and forty-fifth and final episodes of the second Lupin the 3rd series. About this time, he also directed his first original creation, Future Boy Conan, a 26 episode television series that ran from April to October of 1978. He took one more shot at Lupin by directing and writing the second (and many consider the best) movie, Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro. Though the film was originally a box-office disappointment, it is now considered a classic. TMS also had Hayao direct and write the first six episodes of their Sherlock Hound series.
After leaving Tokyo Movie Shinsha, Mr. Miyazaki teamed up with Tokuma Shoten and Animage in 1984 to direct the film version of his epic long running manga series, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. With gorgeous animation, and beautiful music composed by Joe Hisaishi (who would go on to score all of Miya-san's future projects), the movie was a groundbreaking success. The crew behind Nausicaa came together to form Studio Ghibli (pronounced "ji-blee") for Hayao's 1986 feature film, Laputa: Castle In the Sky. In 1988, Ghibli introduced their mascot with his warmhearted picture, My Neighbor Totoro followed by Kiki's Delivery Service in 1989 and Porco Rosso in 1992. As a producer he worked on Whisper of the Heart (which he also wrote) as well as its TV movie sequel, The Cat Returns. In 1997, he released Princess Mononoke, which became the highest grossing Japanese film of all time until Titanic came along and currently, he is working on Howl's Moving Castle which is set to be released in Japanese theaters next summer. For a time, a primarily Asian audience could only view this visionary's work of genius. That all changed fortunately in 1996 when Walt Disney Corporation signed an agreement with Tokuma Shoten Publishing for worldwide distribution of all of Miyazaki's films from Studio Ghibli. I totally recommend that you see at least one of these remarkable pieces of art by a man who has thrilled the imaginations of young and old alike worldwide.
Four of Miyazaki's most popular films, Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, Laputa: Castle In the Sky, and the Oscar winning Spirited Away are now available on DVD from Buena Vista Home Entertainment; his 1988 film. My Neighbor Totoro is also on DVD, but currently only dubbed from Fox Home Entertainment; and Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro is available from Manga Entertainment on dubbed or subtitled VHS and bilingual DVD. For more information and news about Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, visit: http://www.nausicaa.net.
This is Corporal Adam "Fory-san" Zalonis signing off! Live long and prosper (and eat lots of rice)!

COMM LOGS
By Lieutenant Colonel Mike Romero
When I first joined the Jamestown about ten years ago, the Stardate had a feature that was essentially the transcript of a multitude of messages flying back and forth between various crewmembers. The messages added up to tell one hilarious story with several subplots such as two tons of raw fish and kitty litter being delivered to the cargo bay, laser tag matches between the Jamestown’s engineering mice and the Klingon rats, James Winsley’s many robots running amok, Tholians confusing our dilithium crystal chamber with a tanning booth, and the running favorite, a Klingon raptor being transported into a certain flag officer’s sonic shower. After talking with Lieutenant Colonel K’Vin (John Martin) of the IKV Bat’Leth, it was felt that this feature should begin anew. So without further ado, welcome to the first installment of the new comm logs!

Sub: Replicator Trouble
It seems that replicators all over the ship are on the fritz. When I tried to get my morning cup of coffee, the computer responded, "My central processing unit hurts…please restate request more softly." I did so, and this time, the computer hiccupped and went silent. I still haven’t had my coffee yet. Please see to this matter as soon as possible.

Sub: Re: Replicator Trouble
I’ve just finished a level one diagnostic of the replicator system, Commodore. I don’t quite understand how it happened yet, but the computer appears to be hungover. Repairs are underway, but I can’t yet guarantee when you’ll be able to have your coffee.

To: Colonel Jason Schreck, OIC, 108th MSH–USS Jamestown
Sub: Martinis are Ready
Hey Jason! It took all morning, but I finally managed to replicate the thousand martinis we’ll need to entertain all the guests for the Marine picnic in holodeck three this afternoon. It’s a good thing I finished when I did…after the last martini materialized, the computer burped and asked if it could keep all the olives.
From: Colonel Jason Schreck
To: Lieutenant Colonel Mike Romero
Sub: Re: Martinis are Ready
The Marine picnic seems to be coming together really well…we’ve got the drinks, the USS Maelstrom’s Marines are providing the hotdogs and hamburgers, and the IKV Bat’Leth Marines just got back to me and confirmed that they’ll be bringing a ton of those Hershey’s cookies and cream bites. Tell the rest of the unit to stay out of the mess hall for breakfast so they can save room for the picnic…we don’t want any of them catching food poisoning at the last minute, either. Oh, and don’t worry about the replicators, I heard that Lieutenant Chalmers put them on his maintenance schedule.

I don’t mean to rush you, but I would REALLY like a cup of coffee right now. Hey, I have an idea! While you’re working on the replicators, why don’t we just open a Starbuck’s on the rec deck?
From: Lieutenant Thomas Chalmers

Yeah, we could do that, but buying the franchise rights would put us in the poor house.

Sub: Assistance Requested
I need a damage control team and a medical team in the Marine briefing room as soon as possible. We have a bulkhead and some decking that was damaged by a concussion grenade. Lt Col Romero didn’t like the grenade much, either.
From: Lieutenant Thomas Chalmers
To: Colonel Jason Schreck
Sub: Re: Assistant Requested
Damage control team is on the way. Busy morning…the coffee still isn’t ready, and all we have left are a few surviving cans of ImagineCon 2000 surplus beer…
From: Captain Mary Ann Winsley
To: Colonel Jason Schreck
Sub: Re: Assistance Requested.
The concussion grenade seems to have worked as Lieutenant Colonel Romero now has one, but other than that, he’s none the worse for wear. We managed to peel him off the bulkhead using a giant pizza spatula that we borrowed from the mess hall.
From: Sgt James Winsley, MECHA Leader, 108th MSH

To: Lt Col K’Vin vestai-Decara, Marine Commander
– IKV Bat’Leth
Sub: Trade?
NuqneH, Colonel. I just came across a thousand canisters of some extremely corrosive liquid outside the Marine briefing room replicator. Lieutenant Colonel Romero said they were martinis and were safe for drinking, but I’ve smelled the stuff, and I don’t quite believe him. It looks like it would make an excellent hull cleanser, but use extreme caution, as this stuff will eat through ablative armor if spread too thickly. Anyway, would you be interested in trading me for a hundred meters of that draq tape your engineers use? I need something to reinforce the structural integrity of my model rockets before I launch them later at the Marine picnic.
From: Lieutenant Colonel K’Vin vestai-Decara
To: Sergeant James Winsley
Sub: Re: Trade?
Your offer is accepted. Unfortunately, we do not have that much tape to spare at the moment, but do not fear…I have a friend who has a friend who knows someone whose sister is an animal keeper at the Imperial Aviary back on Qo’noS, and have arranged to send you a hundred live draqs instead. When they arrive, it should be simple enough to kill them and convert them into tape yourself. Use some of your no-name security officers to distract the draqs, as they will bite…repeatedly. See you at the picnic. Qapla’!
From: Commodore John Winsley

Who the heck let a Tasmanian Devil loose on the bridge?! I swear, John is never around when you need him…
From: Lieutenant Cunningham
To: Captain Marilyn Romero
Sub: This Can’t Be Good
Number One, we’ve got a serious situation in cargo bay three! Someone just beamed over a hundred Klingon draqs and they’re running amok in the bay! They’ve eaten two cargo handlers and nine no-name security officers already! Send help!
From: Captain Marilyn Romero
To: Lieutenant Thomas Chalmers
Sub: Draq Problem
Lieutenant, send a pest control team to cargo bay three ASAP. It seems that a hundred draqs are on the loose down there and are trying to eat our Security Department. We’re understaffed in Security as it is, please see what you can do. And more importantly, we still don’t have any coffee! Hurry up!
From: Lieutenant Thomas Chalmers
To: Captain Marilyn Romero
Sub: Re: Draq Problem
Ma’am, it’s the strangest thing…my pest control team got down to cargo bay three, but the draqs had already been taken care of. Some Tasmanian Devil tore its way in and ripped them all to shreds. The bay didn’t sustain any appreciable damage, but there’s now a giant knot of draq tape gumming things up, and we lost seven cargo handlers and forty-two no-name security officers. On another note, I’m just about finished with the replicators; you should have your coffee any minute now. And stay away from that ImagineCon beer! I was going to try and sell it to the Pakleds claiming that its plasma coolant…
From: Captain Mary Ann Winsley
To: Captain Marilyn Romero
Sub: Status Report
It seems that the Tasmanian Devil was really John, who underwent a freak genetic mutation caused by severe caffeine deprivation. After running on his rampage throughout the ship, we finally caught John after he swallowed an old coffee machine that we had hoped to save for the next yard sale. He did cough up the filter and some used grounds, but I’m going to have to operate to extract the rest of the machine. He’s in pretty bad shape, so you’re going to be in command for at least a week and a half.

Aviation Week & Space Technology
, a leading aerospace industry magazine, recently honored the "Top 100 Stars of Aerospace." The group was selected by industry professionals worldwide as the most influential and intriguing personalities in the history of flight. Naturally, since the list was created in part to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Wright Brothersí flight, Orville and Wilbur share the top spot. Dominating the list are the names of engineers and industrialists, innovators and advocates, scientists and researchers, warriors, pathfinders and spacefarers. There are also a few names on the list that should be familiar to fans of science fiction.
Ranking in the top twenty, just barely, is Jules Verne. Farther down the line, in the 56th position, is Arthur C. Clarke. H. G. Wells finished in 84th. And at number 71, ahead of the first woman in space, cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova and just behind veteran astronaut John Young, is Gene Roddenberry. There are some on the list with writing credits in addition to other accomplishments, such as Carl Sagan, tied with Sergey Korolyov at number 67, and Anne Morrow Lindbergh at 59. In case you are wondering, there is also one actor on the list -- Jimmy Stewart is ranked 63rd.
An alphabetical listing appeared in the June 16 issue of the magazine, with the ranked list shown in the June 23 edition.

With filming on Enterprise's third season reportedly scheduled to begin on June 26 (story), the producers are planning to introduce several new elements to shake up the series — including fresh writers, characters and new story arcs.
"We've got story changes, new design elements and new characters that we will be introducing, and new costumes that will be added to some of our new characters," executive producer Rick Berman told Star Trek Monthly (via Sci-Fi Pulse). The new characters will likely be a group of marines which joined the Enterprise NX-01 in the season finale to provide some military muscle in the Delphic Expanse.
There may be a some fresh faces behind the camera too, with Berman looking for some new recruits to join Enterprise's writing staff. "We're in the process of interviewing a lot of writers now and we're hopefully going to be hiring two or three new writers for the show." There have been changes to the writing staff each season, with last year's additions being co-executive producer John "Minefield" Shiban and consulting producer David "Judgment" Goodman.
Berman and his fellow executive producer Brannon Braga have already got stuck into plotting the season's initial stories. "We're working on a variety of different arcs and set-ups for the first half dozen episodes," he said. "All of that was set up by "The Expanse" and we're both very pleased by how it all came out."
Enterprise's new mission to seek out the Xindi has opened up a myriad of possible plot developments, according to Berman. "I think that we've set it up properly, with Archer having been given this remarkable and auspicious responsibility, Trip dealing with the death of his sister and T'Pol having made a commitment to Archer. It's set up a very exciting new direction. And the Delphic Expanse is going to be a very strange and spooky place. So, the finale is enabling us to come up with some fresh and exciting story ideas that we're now in the process of writing."

'Galactica' Mixes Old And New
Captured by Richard Hewitt
FROM SCIFIWIRE
A recent visit to the set of the upcoming SCI FI Channel original miniseries Battlestar Galactica revealed that the "reimagined" show will mix design elements from the original 1970s TV series with new designs.
The miniseries is currently shooting on soundstages in Vancouver, B.C.
The new Galactica's Vipers are essentially identical to the original's. But the miniseries will also introduce a new ship, the Raptor. Built for reconnaissance, not combat, the Raptor looks like a bulkier version of the Viper, bristling with antennas and sensors. The fighter pilot helmets will lose their Egyptian influence and be more streamlined.
The Colonial coins ("cubits"), on the other hand, are modeled on the original series' props.
As for the Cylons? Whatever new form those killer robots will take is being kept under wraps. But an actual Cylon costume from the original series will make an appearance; in a museum case. Battlestar Galactica visual special effects supervisor Gary Hutzel told SCI FI Wire that this old-style Cylon has been renamed "the harbinger of doom" and will be on display as an example of what the Cylons looked like in the past. Battlestar Galactica will debut in December.

'Episode III' Begins Shooting
Captured by Richard Hewitt
FROM SCIFIWIRE
George Lucas began 12 weeks of production on the last Star Wars prequel film, Episode III, on June 30 in Sydney, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
A crew of 1,000 and the main cast have returned to Fox Studios in the Australian city, where the previous two prequels were also shot.
Producer Rick McCallum told the newspaper that Episode III would be shot almost entirely inside the studios. Lucas will return for additional filming over the next 18 months, the newspaper reported.
The only shooting outside Sydney will be some "plate photography" backgrounds for visual effects in Italy, New Zealand and Switzerland, the newspaper reported.
Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jimmy Smits and Christopher Lee return, and Peter Mayhew reprises the role of Chewbacca for the first time since Return of the Jedi, the newspaper reported. McCallum described the tone of the movie which deals with Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader as "dark." Episode III is slated for a 2005 release.

NBC Revisiting 'V'
Captured by Richard Hewitt
FROM SCIFIWIRE
NBC has confirmed rumors that a new film based on the 1980s miniseries about alien invasion is in the works, Variety reported.
The three-hour made-for-television movie, called V: The Second Generation, will be directed, written and produced by Kenneth Johnson, creator of the original series.
Johnson is talking to original stars Marc Singer, Robert Englund, Jane Badler and Faye Grant about reprising their roles, though no official casting decisions have been made, the trade reported. The Second Generation will be set 20 years after the original, with the alien Visitors now in control of much of the Earth, according to Johnson.
"The alien force is deeply entrenched, has turned many Earth people into followers and is sweeping them toward a dangerous new conquest," Johnson told the trade. "The Resistance seems to be fighting a losing battle when suddenly Earth gains a powerful and mysterious new ally."
While the movie is envisioned as a stand-alone project, future sequels are possible if ratings are high enough. If green-lighted, the project wouldn't be ready until fall 2004 at the earliest, the trade paper reported.

’T3' Tests Arnold's Mettle
Captured by Richard Hewitt
FROM SCIFIWIRE
Arnold Schwarzenegger, who reprises his most famous role in the upcoming film Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, told SCI FI Wire that he performed his wildest stunt ever for the movie: a chase involving a construction crane.
"I think everyone will agree when they see it," Schwarzenegger said during an interview at the Los Angeles Comic Book Convention over the weekend. "That it is the most intense chase scene that you've ever seen in any movie."
Schwarzenegger added, "I am stuck on the hook of a crane. The crane is being driven by TX, [the female cyborg played by] Kristanna [Loken]. ... What I go through, the kind of things that were planned stuntwise: ... hanging on the hook, going through buildings and going through cars."
Schwarzenegger said that the scene is shot in part from his character's point of view and that the sequence "took us a long time to shoot, because there were just so many wonderful ideas that were written in the script." The entire sequence is "most spectacular, ... but, again, also very very tiring and very dangerous." Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines opens July 2.
