The Tehachapi Tomahawk Football program holds their games at the Benz-Visco Cultural Park, located on Willow Springs Road just south of highway 58.

All four levels of Tomahawks had a strong year in 2013, winning 19 out of 34 combined games at the freshmen, sophomore, junior varsity and varsity levels in the Golden Empire Youth Football League.

The Varsity Tomahawks ended their season with a final record of 3-5, boasting a three-game winning streak in the middle of the season with wins over the Southern Ravens (20-7), Mira Monte Pride (12-6) and Farwest Titans (23-12).

The Junior Varsity Tomahawks ended their season with an overall record of 9-2, winning the GEYF Southern Conference, Super Bowl and Shrine Potato Bowl. Wins for the Tomahawks in the regular season included the Southeast Wolverines (28-0), Garces Irish (14-6), Southern Ravens (32-0), Mira Monte Pride (12-0) and Farwest Titans (32-0). Despite losing their final two regular season games, the Tomahawks come back to win three-straight games in the playoffs with victories over the Garces Irish (26-0), Southwest Mustangs (14-6), Shafter Gladiators (20-0) and Northern Renegades (12-6) to give Tehachapi their sixth GEYF Southern Conference title, third Super Bowl championship and first Shrine Potato Bowl championship.

The Sophomore Tomahawks closed the year with a final record of 4-4, taking wins over the Garces Irish (28-0), Southern Ravens (40-0), Mira Monte Pride (16-0) and Central Roustabouts (13-6).

The Freshmen also had a strong season with an overall 4-4 record, winning a playoff game over the North Renegades 7-6 to close their season. The Freshmen Tomahawks also had victories in the regular season over the Garces Irish (22-0), Southern Ravens (22-7) and Mira Monte Pride (36-8).

The successful year was attributed to the success of the board members, staff, coaches, players, cheerleaders and sponsors who all came together to represent Tehachapi. TYF Board Members this year were Larry Christy, John Kramer, Mike Ricker, Alex Steele and Jack Walters. TYF Alumni RYAN MATHEWS finding success with San Diego Chargers

Tehachapi Youth Football Alumni Ryan Mathews has made history as a first round selection with the San Diego Chargers.

Matthews signed a 5-year deal worth 26.65 million in August 2010 after a successful three-year stint with the Fresno State Bulldogs.  Mathews is the projected feature back for San Diego, who hopes to revamp the 'bolts running attack after the departure of long-time future Hall-of-Famer LaDanian Tomlinson.

For the Tomahawks, Mathews was a standout player during the 2001-2002 seasons, helping Tehachapi reach the GEYF Superbowl.  Congrats to former TYF standout RYAN MATHEWS!

2013 JAYVEE TOMAHAWKS WIN SUPER BOWL!

TEHACHAPI NEWS -- For a team that stressed defense all season long, it was fitting that the Tomahawks’ final game of the season ended with a 20-0 shutout over the Shafter Gladiators.

The Jayvee Tomahawks (8-2) defense was stifling, recording two interceptions and holding the Gladiators to only 12 net yards in a dominating championship performance.

Not to be outdone, the offense also put on an impressive showing, recording 234 yards overall and three touchdown runs of 14, 20 and 82 yards.

Tehachapi nearly scored on their opening drive of the game in the first quarter, taking the kickoff and marching 16 plays down field before turning the ball over on downs at the Shafter three yard line. On their next offensive series, the Tomahawks went eight plays before the drive stalled again near the Gladiator goal line.

After the Gladiator’s went on offense after Tehachapi’s second possession, the Tomahawk defense forced a punt deep in Shafter territory, setting up optimum field position at the Shafter 22-yard line with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

Tehachapi took full advantage, needing only three plays to record the first score of the game on a 14-yard touchdown run with 19 seconds remaining until halftime. After the successful two-point PAT, the Tomahawks went up, 8-0.

In the second half, Tehachapi went 50 yards on only four plays on their first series of the third quarter, capping the drive with a 20-yard touchdown run. The Tomahawks would add an insurance 82-yard touchdown later in the quarter to put the game away for the eventual 20-0 win.

The shutout was the Jayvee Tomahawks sixth of the season and gave the TYF program their third GEYF league crown since joining the league in 2002. It was also the sixth championship appearance overall.

Playing for the Jayvee Tomahawks this season were Nate Pumphrey, Noah Ledesma, Tanner Love, Chris Garcia, Nathanael Betz, Tyler Simunovich, Trevor Medovitch, Connor Timm, Garett Snider, Kyle Bryan, Kyle Cummings, Patrick Grimes, Rory Bishop, Mark Marquez, Brandon Janney, Cody Hayes, Antonio Garcia, Luke Lowell, Tyler Simpson, Jaron Searcy, Hayden Palmer, Jacob Jaster, Logan McKelvey, Carson Odneal, Hayden Vollmer, Joseph Dekelaita, Jacob Smith, Dylan Ragsdale, Cody Mays and Robby Shugart.

Cheerleaders were Mariah Bailey, Jaycee Bardsley, Ariana Burkhalter, Sam Bustamante, Amelia Corral, Alexis Cross, Hannah Deaville, Alyssa Gasca, Kayla Graff, Shofia Gonzales, Kamryn Gutierrez, Aurora Lane, Brianna Mackey, Savannah Self, Christina Stebbins, Katie Tomlinson, Katelyn West and Alyssa White.

Coaches were Bob Schuster, Jody Dalmas, Ryan Dalmas, Pete Smith, Brittany Stevens, Rebekah Richardson, Cameron Hernandez and team moms were Jessica Janney and Kim Deaville.
