Saturday
night the Cleveland Browns beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7-6. Kelly
Holcomb threw to Aaron Shea for the Browns lone touchdown. Kelly Holcomb
ended the night going 12 for 16 with 111 yards along with that touchdown.
Tim Couch and the first team had the unfortunate task of dealing with
Tampa’s awesome defense. The Browns running backs did not fair to well
all night long and seemed to be overmatched by the speed of the Tampa Bay
defense.
The
Browns offensive line showed that, although better than last year, it is
still in bad shape with Tre Johnson and Ross Verba not playing for the
second week in a row. Tim Couch, Spergon Wynn and Kelly Holcomb got
knocked around all night. The quarterbacks were not helped by the running
backs either. They missed blocks and did not seem to be real sure where to
be or where to go. Quincy Morgan, and Rickey Dudley both dropped balls
that were poorly thrown but should have been caught.
For
the second week in a row the Browns defense did not give up a touchdown
and held Brad Johnson and Keyshawn Johnson in check. The outstanding play
of Anthony Henry was the difference. His second touchdown stealing
interception of the year may have saved the Browns victory. Gerard Warren
continues to show signs of improvement. He had several nice pushes up the
middle and had a great shot on Shaun King, Tampa’s second string
quarterback.
The
kicking game was horrible. Phil Dawson and Francisco Biancamano
both missed kicks of 42 and 43 yards. Biancamano a kicker/punter is trying
to make the team as a backup. That coupled with Biancamano botched punt
attempt that went threw the end zone for a touchback. Chris Gardocki, like
usual, was again the only light in the dismal hole that the kicking game
left.
I am happy that we
have won two games in a row but I hope that Browns fans keep things in
check. You can see this group of guys playing as a team. That is all we
need to do this preseason. Friday night the Browns take on the Terry
Robiskie’s old team the Washington Redskins. This should get us a full
half of Tim Couch and the first team offense. Until next time… Go
Browns!
