Starbase-10
Here are a few tidbits we've established in the course of the
ever-developing saga of Starbase-10:
- The Station - Believe it or not, this used to be a Romulan
scientific outpost!
- The Planet - We have an M-type planet in the vicinity
called Ariadne, named for a woman in a tale about a minotaur of old Earth
mythology.
- Yellow Alert - Because of our proximity to the Neutral Zone
we maintain a yellow alert status
- The Mission - Guard this sector of the Neutral Zone...
Assist in diplomatic relations with the Romulans... Provide a safe,
controlled environment for trade and commerce.
- The first CO - Miller (NPC), replaced because of
scandal! ooooooooooo
- The second CO - Capt Zachary
Vrona
- The third CO - Capt Shanti
Harold
- The Mines - Ariadne is discovered to have rich deposits of
dilithium... But, those areas are mined! Operations are underway to remove
the mines (explosives) and re-open the mines.
- The Transporters - There are security protocols put in
place automatically when we go to red alert or anytime there's a problem
with point-to-point transports inside the station. These protocols prohibit
any use of transporters without command staff authorization... aka the
signals are scrambled/jammed.
- Weapons fire - Just like on starships, any energy weapon
fired on the station would be detected, located, and alarms sounded.
- The Umpyrs - On Deck 200, are sequestered a converted race
called Umpyrs, similar in some way to vampires. We encountered/recovered one
of their ships (now at SF) with a dead crew. Some survivors were hiding out
but all eventually perished with a single exception. She
"infected/converted" several of the station personnel and now is
basically a queen of her new peers, numbering 38 total. There is an antidote
that will reverse the condition. The 38 folks here made a decision not to be
changed back. There are numerous security barriers and detection equipment
in place to track them closely and keep them here. They need very little
environmental support and are sensitive to heat and intense light. She has
discovered that only she can convert anyone, and both Romulan and Ferengi
are not very tasty.
- The Wayne syndrome - Lt John Wayne, of security fame, seems
to have more time logged in sickbay than anyone, even 80psi! Fortunately he
recovers, but he has no hesitation to throw himself into danger for others.
He has been a constant figure in security since the SIM's inception,
keeping an immodest posture, frequently the scapegoat for problems or
shortcomings in the Security dept, but he wouldn't leave it for anything!
- The Jeffries Tubes - After several problems with
infiltration, more sensors (of several types) have been installed, both on
the plans and off. Officer to officer handoff of classified info is passed
to keep the location of some of these secret. Several tubes/routes were not
on the original layout, security and the marines have remapped the entire
concourse web of tubes. The marine section of the base is physically barred
with pressurized locks.
