Zeta 2 Reticuli: Evidence It May Harbour
Intelligent Life

The Constellation Reticulum is only Visible from the Southern Hemisphere (Fig.1). Two of these Stars in particular spark interest within the scientific community because they are much like our own sun. These two stars are Zeta 1 and Zeta 2 Reticuli (located on the right of Fig. 1). The two stars make up an unusual Binary Star System. Usually in a Binary Star System the two stars are relatively close to each other, but in the case of Zeta 1 and 2 Reticuli they are quite far apart, approximately the distance from our sun to Pluto times 10. If one of the two stars Harbours Intelligent life, it would have not taken long in their technological evolution to prove that other Solar Systems exist (only if the other star has at least 1 planet). Interstellar space travel would have been accomplished with relative ease, because another star would be in such close proximity to their own star. This would have likely sped up their technological evolution. We on the other hand have no nearby stars, the closest being Alpha Centauri 4.3 light years away. We are no where near light travel and will likely never get there because according to the laws of physics no physical object can travel at light speed (299,972,458 meters/second) because it would require an infinite amount of energy to accelerate an object with rest mass up to this speed. Even if light speed travel were possible, the physical strain would instantly kill anyone, and the special relativistic effects would send you hundreds of thousands of years into the future. If intelligent life does exist around Zeta 2 Reticuli, we are definitely not in the same position as they would be, since they have the privilege of being part of a Binary Star System. It will be quite difficult for us to master interstellar space travel within our lifetime when we have only recently discovered the existence of extra-solar planets.
