Mykonos Restaurants - Marco Polo Restaurant in Mykonos Chora
Mykonos Chora, Marco Polo Restaurant Mykonos Chora, Marco Polo Restaurant Mykonos Chora, Marco Polo Restaurant

The Marco Polo Restaurant is situated in Mykonos town in a small sidestreet that leads from the square with the school and the supermarket. Our waiter on the first visit to Marco Polo Restaurant could do with a good haircut, but he is very friendly though. The white housewine is not chilled and watery: bad start. Not many complaints about the rest of the food and the service though. The lambchops, chicken souvlaki and tzaziki are just fine, the beetroot salad is covered under a big pile of (read: too much) garlic though. The bread in the little breadbasket is not from one piece so that means that it has been served out before. The first night we suspected that, but since we had brown and white bread in our basket, we thought this was normal here. The second time (it was good enough to come back) we got all sorts and sizes of white bread that maybe other people have had in their hands or coughed over, so we send it back and ask for bread in one piece. A wrong way of saving money in our point of view because bread is so cheap in Greece. The housewine and the bread were the ony two bad points that we could find though. Update: three years later they are still serving pieces of old bread with their meals, for which you will have to pay. I send it back as always because they do have fresh bread as well. They just don't give it to the customers.

Our verdict: needs better houswine and fresh bread for everybody, 8 out of 10

Mykonos Restaurants - La Playa Restaurant in Platis Gialos
Mykonos restaurants

Most restaurants in Platis Gialos tend to be on the pricy side because of the kind of tourists that stay in this village, people with money to spend. La Playa Snackbar on the beach is and exception to the rule, with good but cheap pitas, breakfasts, homemade soups and fast food. Nice setting, same view as the expensive restaurants next door.

Our verdict: good, 8 out of 10

Mykonos Restaurants - A Mode Mio Restaurant in Mykonos Chora
Mykonos restaurants

Situated on the square of the school opposite the supermarket is the Italian Restaurant A Mode Mio. We tried the tuna pizza and the Galina pizza with chicken. The housewine is delicious, the choice of pizzas and pastas is wide. The bread they serve is real Italian bread and it's warm, and comes with delicious dips of garlic butter, olives and sundried tomatoes. The pizzas are very good, but have much cheese and little tomatosauce on them. They fill you up very quickly. At the end there is a delicous free desert.

Our verdict: good to very good, 8,5 out of 10

Mykonos Restaurants - Traversada Snackbar in Mykonos Town
Mykonos restaurants

Traversada Snackbar can be found opposite the parking in the harbour of Mykonos town. They have different kind of sandwiches and pastries filled with feta, tomatoes and other things. It is cheap, the coffee is good (2 euro in 2006) and the service is friendly.

Our verdict: good to very good, 8,5 out of 10

Mykonos Restaurants - Cafe Express in Mykonos Chora
Mykonos restaurants

cafe Express is situated near the Manto Square in Mykonos harbour next to the taxi stand. It's an expensive place if you are thirsty, but that goes for a lot of restaurants in Mykonos. The coffee costs 4 euro (2006) but it's good.

Our verdict: too expensive, 6 out of 10

Mykonos Restaurants - Meonidas Snackbar in Mykonos Chora
Mykonos restaurants

Meonidas snackbar is one of the pita restaurants in the busy shopping streets of the chora of Mykonos. The pittas are cheap (2 euro in 2006) and delicious. There are a couple of seats outside if you don't want to eat your food in the streets.

Our verdict: good to very good, 9 out of 10

Mykonos Restaurants - Macharoni Restaurant in Mykonos Chora
Mykonos restaurants

This used to be one of our favorite places to eat because it was relatively cheap and good. The service varies from year to year though because they keep changing staff. 2006 Was not the most succesful with an arrogant waiter that thought he was it all, but who mixed up the plates and kept us waiting for our food (after our order) for 45 minutes without an apology. The restaurant is going to be sold or closed next year, or so we were told by the owner.

Our verdict: anywhere between a 1 and a 8,5 depending on the staff

Mykonos Restaurants - Bellissimo Restaurant in Agios Ioannis
Mykonos restaurants

Along the road through Agios Ioannis you can find the Bellissimo Restaurant with the football trophies. They have several sorts of coffee, sandwiches, hamburgers, pizzas, spagetthi, fruitjuices, milkshakes and salads. There's an olivedip and a garlicdip with your soupsticks (which come instead of bread). The Illly coffee is good, but it comes without a glass of water.

Our verdict: reasonable to good, a 7,5 out of 10

Mykonos Restaurants - Giavroulas Restaurant in Mykonos Chora
Mykonos restaurants

Giavroulas Restaurant is about 50 meters away in on of the streets leading from the square with the school. It's not a place that draws the attention right away. It is cozy yet not really dressed up, but it is affordable and the food is good. There is a small choice of apetizers, and they have chicken, veal, liver and salads. The housewine could be better. It actually tastes more like sherry. The chickensouvlaki is very nice. The meatdishes are served without any vegetables.

Our verdict: good, a 8,5 out of 10

Mykonos Restaurants - Music Cafe in Mykonos Chora
Mykonos restaurants

The Music Cafe has got a menu with a large choice of everything, so why it is called a cafe and not a restaurant remains a mistery. The breakfast is nice and not too expensive, with bacon and eggs for 8,50 (2006 - which is cheap for Mykonos), and honey and marmelade extra is the waitress likes you. You can find the Music Cafe in the harbour of Mykonos Chora.

Our verdict: good, a 8 out of 10

Mykonos Restaurants - Cosmo Cafe in Mykonos Chora
Mykonos Chora Cosmo Café Mykonos Chora Cosmo Café Mykonos Chora Cosmo Café

Small café / snackbar around the corner from Fabrika Square (the main bus station). We often had our breakfast here, usually bacon and eggs. The bread is in one piece and it is fresh. It comes with butter. The coffee could be stronger but they do bring a glass of water with it. Lots of bacon, sometimes fried a bit too long. Good thing: it is not as expensive as some of the other places.

Our verdict: reasonable, a 7 out of 10

Mykonos Restaurants - Apollon Restaurant in Mykonos Chora
Mykonos Chora Apollon Restaurant Mykonos Chora Apollon Restaurant Mykonos Chora Apollon Restaurant

Here we ordered a club sandwich with smoked chicken and fries. The coffee and some of the dishes are really epensive. A bottle of water in most of the restaurants is sold for a euro or a euro and a half, here suddenly it costs 4 euros and a cup of coffee costs 5 euro (2009). The service is correct but the plates and the rest of the stuff is very quickly removed from the table, when you are still not finished, as if they would like you to leave as soon as possible again in order to make room for the next guests. We experienced that as unpleasant.

Our verdict: the food is okay, but much too expensive, a 6 out of 10
