A MARLAGRAPHY 2002! BY: StarHeartThe young and talented Marla Sokoloff has just turned 21. Three years later, she is still smokin' up the TV charts as the hip & hilarious legal secretary, Lucy Hatcher on ABC's "The Practice". These days, Marla is currently rockin' the mic with with her band, Smittin. Marla plays the rhythm guitar and lead vocals. With 4 great songs and several hot gigs under their belt. Smittin has been a proven success with both fans and the young LA crowd. It's interesting to know that she was an everyday kid with a dream. A dream to be an entertainer. Marla was born on December 19, 1980. She grew up in Black Hawk Community, San Francisco. Marla attended Vista Grande Elementry school. Before performing in public Marla had her own performances at home. She remembers toddling around the house as a four year old "singing into a pump dispenser of toothpaste", (calling it Colgate Karaoke). Sometimes even more interesting, she'd sing to the music in the car. Driving her at the time 8yr old brother, Jared to tears. Ms. Sokoloff was seven years old when she started performing for the public. She got involved with school plays and other local productions as well, as hookin' up with a group called "ACT" (American Conservatory Theater), winning her numerous awards for her acting and singing. Plus the exposure she needed to get into Hollywood. Her performances landed her in front of a guy who would soon lead her into the Hollywood spotlights. That was after she begged her mom for about 2 years to let her go. Marla during this time at the age of eleven got the honor of singing the national anthem for the Oakland A's and USO baseball game. "If I had to do it now, I'd probably throw-up!" Marla admits to people magazine. Marla moved to LA about 9 years ago with her mom, Cindi who is also her manager. She quickly started landing roles in popular TV shows such as "Full House" playing the smart-mouthed smoking Gia Mahan. Party of Five playing "Got Smokes" Jodi. As she became a little more known in Tinseltown, Marla started to take the flying leap into movies. Like in "True Crime" playing Alicia Silverstone's younger sassy sister Vicky Giordano. She also played Cokie Mason in "The Baby-Sitter's Club" another troubled kid who wants to put the BSC out of business. "I always seem to be the bad girl." Sokoloff tells TV Guide. Her characters may have an edge yet they do keep you on your toes and laughing full time. Unfortunately, not everyone thinks so though. Marla has taken some sharp arrows in the form of critizism concerning her characters' behavior. Off camera she's just Marla. A normal 21 year old with a kewl job, entertaining people. Ms. Sokoloff trys to keep her life as normal as she can. Hanging out with a tight group of friends and boyfriend James Franco who are not impressed by her fame. "I purposely try not to read the reviews about myself so I won't get nervous." Marla told TV critic, Mr. Walz in an interview. With her hot new band, Smittin and a secured job on The Practice, Marla is certaintly holding her own in the Hollywood fantasy land. There is no doubt that she will continue to skyrocket to the top.
