SNOOPING AROUND THE PRACTICE!

The Lawyers on The Practice (ABC, Sundays, 10 P.M./ET) fight the good fight for their clients in the courtroom. The show's new office assistant, Lucy Hatcher- played by Marla Sokoloff- has been grabbing her share of attention on producer David E. Kelly's series. Initially recruited for seven episodes, Sokoloff, who turns 18 on December 19, recently became a series regular. Meaning Lucy will continue to walk around the office wearing her telephone headset and poking her nose in where it doesn't belong.
"The headset totally messes up my hair," jokes Sokoloff. "[Lucy] needs to be very mobile because she is just into everything, and a phone would tie her down." This isn't her first "aggressive" character. "I always seem to be the bad girl," says the San Francisco native. Marla moved to Los Angeles five years ago with her mother Cindi, her manager (who's divorced from Sokoloff's father, Howard, a doctor). "For some reason, I must just look like one because that's how I get cast. On Full House I taught Stephanie how to smoke, and I taught Claudia how to smoke on Party of Five."
Off camera, she says, she's "all good". She divides her time between the series and high school. Sokoloff works with a tutor on the set and attends a private school on her days off. This leaves her little time for recreation or for singing, which she has studied since she was 3. "Maybe if I was on [Kelley's other legal series] "Ally McBeal", I could sing. On this show it's a little too serious."
