What I Won’t Miss About Hong Kong

Hanging washing inside, and stretching sheets over chairs to dry

Not having to put up with spitting, sniffing and belching

Rudeness and pushing and shoving

Ducking lethal umbrellas when it rains

Noise from the apartment above, and late night piano playing (even if it was very good)

The black film that coats everything regularly

The bad breath that most people seem to have

Humidity and fluffy hair

Horrendous rents

Working in the ‘wops’ with no shops around to walk at lunchtime

Friendly neighbours and local vendors
Always learning about a different culture/country
The hustle and bustle of a city ‘alive’ especially at night

Efficient train service

Travelling on the Star Ferry and the trams especially at night
Chinese New Year and Christmas decorations
The city neons/lights at night
The view from The Peak
Looking in awe across to the Island at night from Kowloon side
Inexpensive concerts at the Cultural Centre
Stanley Market
The night view from my window
The odd unexpected compliment
Mastering the odd word in Cantonese and saying it
Travelling to nearby countries
Asian furniture and arts
Walking out the door and having everything around me
Victoria Park and the walk through to Causeway Bay.
Late night shopping
Inexpensive C.D.’s 
A good selection of Asian books/novels
Cheap computer software
The street markets and bargaining
Watching the busy harbour from my apartment window
The traditions and celebrations
Old interesting streets, buildings and the life within
The safeness of walking about alone at night
