One additonal thing that is monitored in this PBeM is your equipment and finances. This helps to add an element of realism. Can your character afford this or that weapon? Damn, how long is until pay day? Can I borrow some cash someone please? One of the biggest motivation in Dark Thaum is the subject of cash. This section of the rules explain's how Money and Equipment works in the game.

How much money do I have coming in and how often do I get paid?
All crew members get 5% of the ship's profits from any contracts it undertakes. Any left over money gets put into a ship's account to be used to pay for things like docking fees, repairs and supplies. How much this will be and how often it comes in depends on the contract being undertaken at the time, though the more lucrative contracts tend to also be the more dangerous ones.

It is also possible for characters to be able to earn a little extra cash doing some other things of a personal nature. If your character is to engage in any such activity, make sure you clear it with the Games Master who will work out how much you can get from it and how often.

Ok, I have some cash now, what do I spend it upon then?
On this website there is a section entitled Dark Thaum price guide. In here, you should find most things your character should require from clothes (yes, you even have to buy the clothes upon your back) to guns, narcotics to services. This should cover most things your character needs. If there is something though that you want to aquire which isn't in this guide, contact the Games Master who will sort out a price for you and avaliability.

What's this about avaliabilty?
All items are listed as either being common items (c) or rare items (r). This basically shows how easy it is to get hold of something (in context, see below) and thus the terms given are pretty much are self-explanatory.

How do I aquire common items?
Common items are pretty much everyday objects and if you want your character to purchase a common item, there is no need to include it in the actual story writing part of a post (though there should be allowance suggested in time for the character to be able to have the time to make the purchase). All that is required is either an OOC note placed at the foot of one of your posts or a quick OOC post stating what you wish to buy.

However, please remember to keep things in context. Even if an item is listed as being common, it does not neccessarily mean you will always have access to it. For example, though you may wish to purchase a gun that is listed as common, your character won't be able to aquire it if he's in some cities high street. More than likely your character will have to travel to the Dark Thaum and find a black market arm's dealer. Likewise, one is hardly likely to buy clothes in the Dark Thaum unless it's the stuff that has fallen of the back of an aerial truck so to speak.

You can aquire as many common items as you can afford at any time (giving allowances for actual shopping time.

How do I aquire rare items?
Rare items are items that are much harder to get hold off and your character will need to specifically need to go out of their way to track something down. To aquire a rare item you should make a post detailing the event and how your character got hold of it. You may aquire only one rare item (or a group of one type should it say be something small but you would use a number of, such as rare bullets) per post that you specifically go hunting for it. Again, please bear in mind context the same as mentioned above for common items.

What is a super rare item and how do I get one?
Super Rare Items are items that are incredibly hard to get hold off or are unique (examples include for those famaliar with the Dark Thaum universe, items like No Problem weapons). In order to aquire a super rare item requires a complete sub-plot (maybe even a whole plot) and should be discussed with the Games Master first.

Where can I keep track of what equipment and money my character has?
Your individual character bio's has a section that detail's what equipment they have and how much money they have left to spend. This is updated everytime your character aquires or spends money.

What currency do we use?
Everything is worked out in Delta Feareon credits which is often used in electronic form. Though it is assumed that each nation and some smaller star systems have their own currencies (see conversion charts in the Dark Thaum price guide), for ease in working everything out, everything is kept in the DF Credits. Don't worry about exchange rates, there is no charge anyway in this time period for converting cash from one currency to another so the only time you would need to really use the currency conversion charts is as a writing aid during your posts.

Can I get items any other way then having to buy them?
Off Course you can. You can steal, pillage etc... items. If you are planning on doing this, discuss it first with the Games Master who will either approve of it or not (and perhaps throw in a plot twist or two). Using these methods though we require you to make a post whether it is common or rare item detailing how the item was aquired. Also remember that the rule that only one rare item can be aquired per post and you won't be able to get infinate amount of common items either using other methods.

Can I just happen to 'find' items?
In a word, No. Only the Games Master can authorise characters just happening to stumble across something so don't write it into a post unless the Games Master has given you permission to.

Do I start with any money at the beggining of the game?
Yes. As mentioned in the character creation rules when you click on Join, your character starts with 2500 credits which can be spent during character creation, though only 500 credits of that can be spent on rare items.

I still have a question...
Then contact the Games Master.
