By virtue of historical background of the monastery and its present prevailing condition in Tibet, it was felt necessary to re-establish this monastery in Dharamsala, India. Dharamsala is the seat of Tibetan government-in-exile and the exile home of the Dalai Lama. Of four religious sects of Tibetan Buddhism, Nyingma, Kagyu and Gelug have their center or a monastery in Dharamsala. Therefore, there is growing need for one Sakya monastery for the Sakya sect practitioners and for the purposes of cultural preservation, research and promotion of Sakya sect.
