As is recorded
in the works of Choegyal Phagpo, Tibet is a land characterized by distinct geographical
features such as mighty snow-mountain and crystal clear natural streams, etc.
By virtue of the blessings of its patron Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, the people
there are born compassionate and wise.
This great land of Tibet is divided into four “RU”, of them, the region of Ru
lag in Tsang Latoe Grompa Kyi of Sakya territory has been a land visited by
line of seven consecutive reincarnations Manjushri. Until today the line of
Tri-natha is unbroken.
Located at about one day’s journey to the west of this spiritual and politically
important region in the town of Chudoe. It is in the hillside of this small
town that the reputed Sakya master, Chudoe Choekor Norling Monastery (CCNM)
is situated.
It was founded by Ngorchen Kunga Sangpo. There were 500 monks in the monastery.
The biography of Ngorchen Kunga Sangpo,rNam thar leg bshad ‘chu bo dhu pa’1
rgyamtsho says.” in the place such as chudue, Tingkheb, Ribo Gang, Trophur Tharpa
Ling and otehrs, he gave his blessings and founded the Ewam Choedhen monastery
at the age of 48 in the female Earth Bird year, followed by other monasteries
such as Lobo Thupten Namgyal, Purang Choedhe Gyalje Tshal and Chudue Choekor
Norling monastery.”
Hence this monastery of Chudue Choekor Norling Monastery belonged to the Ngor
sub school of Sakya tradition. As for the objects of worship preserved in this
monastery, it has a number of rare and precious objects, including a giant statue
of Maitreya with a height of a three stories building and a statue of Buddha
Shakyamuni.
However in the course of the Chinese Cultural Revolution, this monastery was
razed down and all the holy objects, including the statues and scriptures, etc.
were burnt or thrown into the river. Thus the monastery was ravaged into ruins.
