After the
Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1959, almost all the Tibetan Learning centres
(Monastery) were destroyed, environment and wildlife are massively exploited
which led to near extinction of many species, and over more than 1.2 million
Tibetan died due to the vicious Chinese designs to eliminate Tibetan from the
face of the earth.
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama fled into exile in India followed by some 80,000
Tibetans. The temporal and spiritual Head of Tibet, His Holiness the Dalai Lama
then established a strong base in Dharamsala and the rest of India to campaign
for the restoration of Tibetan independence and started to work for the preservation
of Tibetan culture in exile.
All these important wjork has been carried out by the Central Tibetan Administration
(CTA) of the Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet. The CTA is recognized by Tibetans,
both in and outside Tibet, as their sole and legitimate government. It is also
being increasingly recognized as the legitimate government and true representative
of the Tibetan people by parliament around the world.
Right from its inception, the CTA has set itself the twin task of rehabilitating
Tibetan refugees and restoring the freedom of Tibet. Education has been on the
top of the rehabilitation agenda.
