Ten Forward - Deck 10
Like all Galaxy class starships, Iliad has been designed with maximum comfort in mind due to the necessarily long periods away from home. It is essential to enable rest and recreation and also to encourage social interaction amongst crew. It is vital for the efficient running of the ship that crew get along with each other. Ten Forward is the ideal place for this, due to the size of the crew, Ten Forward is never empty. Like most areas of the ship, it is well served by turbo lifts with at least two in the immediate vicinity and a further six a corridor length away. Although there are Holodecks and other recreational areas aboard Iliad, Ten Forward is the main port of call. After all, it is probably the only area of the ship which is solely a place for socialization.
Ten Forward serves food and drink, most of which is replicated although there is a small stock of "the real thing" for special occasions. Synthehol is the main alcoholic substitute drink which gives the illusion of intoxication and yet allows the drinker to sober up very quickly when needed. Food is provided by two replicators behind the bar and a further two in each side wall. It is an excellent place to hold functions etc.
As its name suggests, Ten Forward faces
forward and is situated right at the front of the ship with the windows looking out
over space. It is primarily split into three sections, a lengthy bar area with
stools, a lower level where crew members can mingle and a raised seated area where
those who are staying longer, eating or even playing games can sit. The r
oom is
staffed and run by civilians who provide a round the clock service. As real alcohol
is not served as a general rule, there is little danger of the ship running dry.
Ten Forward is designed to enable crew members to relax. The entrance doors are wooden, unlike doors in other areas of the ship. The lighting is subtle and subdued. The room has a high ceiling and light colours which adds to the light and airy feeling permeating throughout.
