The Pkunk Culture
The Pkunk culture is a little confusing and open to interpretation, but you will probably get the basic idea. The culture is not very diverse because they have come to point were they almost agree on everything. They yearn for diversity and someone else (races who aren't Pkunk) to love them because they would feel that their love they have and express would be true, just and actually loving instead of just thinking they love each other and everything else. Basically they want everybody to love them so that they can feel even better. Their love is completely utterly and totally unconditional to the highest possible extent.
The Pkunk have daily séances. This allows them to 'travel' to other spiritual planes of reality, here time is dilated and they have lots of fun for a long time, but eventually return to the 'real' world to carry out mundane work and increase there philosophy as much as they can. They haven't had much interaction with other species until the Slave Revolts, but now they talk to as many aliens as possible absorbing their philosophy in hopes that they could see something true and make them even more philosophical. They also, of course, look for love, the Pkunk always does that.
The Pkunk claim they can see beings that are not of this reality or rather not in the same phase of reality we are experiencing. Their 'beings' are an important part of their culture. It is someone they can talk to that aren't Pkunk, they could be a fabrication made by the Pkunk in hopes to find someone not like them, but have the same love and compassion that they. The fail miserably at this though, they have only known Pkunk for so long and with their capability of understand each other completely makes their creativity about anything other than themselves nil to none.
The Pkunk can only give other Pkunk material things and love. They yearn for other cultures. The Pkunk have almost reached an epitome of spiritual and personal unification. But when they first came in contact with the Ilwrath even though they didn't talk to them very much and just killed them, the Ilwrath changed their society forever. The Pkunk believe that the Ilwrath were a very spiritual race like the Pkunk once and when they became better than perfect the defected to the evil side. This could be a fabrication made by the Pkunk so they could relate to Ilwrath who were attacking them so violently to not be so horrified by the site of the Ilwrath. Or so that they could relate to them and forgive them for what they have done. Or that they could love them and feel no hate. Or it could be any combination of these reasons or maybe even the Pkunk were telling the truth… Either way they changed the Pkunk's belief, so now they do many imperfect, annoying things, so they won't 'defect' like the Ilwrath 'have.'
When the Pkunk meet the Captain they decided soon after they meet him that they were going to return to the Yehat. After meeting a hostile alien race that almost destroyed them they change and important part of their beliefs and after meeting one human captain they were willing to risk their annihilation to return to the Yehat. The Pkunk obvious want some sort of identity that is different, better, more interesting… more diverse!
The Pkunk are now busy assimilating the Yehat, so their attention has been diverted to that. What their society will be like when the Yehat are finally totally assimilated, no one knows, not even the Pkunk's premonitions can see that outcome.
When the Pkunk left the Yehat they decided to change their diet. The Yehat were solely meat eaters (and so were the Pkunk), but the Pkunk at the time thought that killing would poison a person's 'karma' so they switched to eating defenseless bugs native to Gamma Krueger 1 and Gamma Serpentis 1 (DNA brought from their Homeworld when they left). They eat the bugs live as a symbolic gesture of them respecting life. They belief anything living has a soul, but it is the wisdom that counts. However you have a certain type of body that doesn't represent necessarily your wisdom, but your knowledge.
The Pkunk's technology is very limited because they have not been focusing on it very much. They focus on love and philosophy and spirituality. Not materials things like ships, technology, colonies (unless required for living), etc. But now that they are joining with the Yehat not only will they get all of their technology, but may also get different new incentives like technological advance instead of just pure spirituality.
The Pkunk do not appear to be very scientific because even though they know bacteria causes infection they still blame it on mystic stuff like the alinement of the stars. They also believe in a "good point-bad point" system. They think that each living being is given good times and bad times. That also goes for personality traits and skills.
NOTE: These are only certain aspects of Pkunk Culture, but much more can be added. So why don't you all think of something and email it to me and all I ask is that it is consistent with all the other ASCH pages.
