THE SHOFIXTI SNUBFIGHTER The Shofixti Snubfighter is an improvement over the Scout. It has the same primary weapon, the energy darts, but it has a longer range, and the firing rate (how fast it can fire darts) is cut by a 1/3. It has four crew instead of six, but it has about quadruple the energy storage of the old Scout, and also can atain high speeds, though how fast it accelerates has not changed. The Glory Device has been replaced with a shield module. The Shofixti, studying Yehat shield modules, have come up with a new type of shield; a Bora-3 type shield, they call it. Each time the special ability (which takes up twelve battery units) is used, a bit of shield springs up. Each shield raise with the special ability acts like adding one crew, and takes that damage; the crew itself may only be it once all the shields are down. The panel with Glory Device controls and readouts is replaced with another one, with a button and a large rectangle. The rectangle shows black if there are no shields, red between 1-6 (if there is the number of shields that can take the damage of 1-6 crew), yellow between 7-12, green between 13-16, and blue if it's 17 or above. Since the shield only takes the damage of crew, and does not replace them, of course, whenever it shows black or red its best to retreat and recharge your shields, as the crew inside are even preciousser than if you're playing with a Skiff. The Snubfighter looks exactly like the Scout, except the two Glory Devices on the bottom are replaced with a shield module strapped in place. If it bumps into an asteroid with shields up, it is not bumped in another direction by the asteroid, and the asteroid is blown up; however, it lowers the shields by one simulated crew. If the Snubfighter and the ship it is fighting collide when the Shofixti's shields are up, the Snubfighter loses a shield unit, knocks the enemy ship normally - but with double the power it normally does - and the Snubfighter loses a shield unit. Unless the bump sends the Snubfighter's enemy into the planet or their own weapon, no damage is incurred - in other words, you can't use your shields to damage your enemy by ramming them, though it will still send them off course. Also, for you nitpickers, the reason they cannot bring themselves up to infinite shields is: 1) It cannot raise shields above the simulated crew number of 38 (so even super-charged, the Snubfighter cannot violate the 42/42 rule, as I call it) 2) It cannot dock or land with shields up. 3) Hyperspace bursts the shields, because [tech tech tech]. ;) 4) Because that would be plain unfair! |
