MegaMan X History: The Limited Maverick War The period of war after the Earth Reconstruction was lead by Signas, who had gone Maverick some time after the project’s completion. The eight lead Mavericks under his command, known as the Limited Mavericks, were past Mavericks with armor enhancements mimicking the style of upgrades X has received. The true secret was discovered shortly before Signas’ defeat: Signas had actually discovered two secrets that belonged to both Omega and Dr. Doppler. From Omega, Signas discovered his secret for reploid resurrection and had used it to revive several old Mavericks, but the majority of his force came from the reploids that had already been resurrected by Omega in 21XX, some by their own free will, most not by choice. From Doppler, Signas discovered the plans for reploid enhancements, mainly those of the original Doppler army in the Third Maverick War. It was discovered that the armor did not only enhanced the reploid’s abilities, but with a special kind of virus, the reploid could actually be controlled, which also created a brainwashing effect. If the armor upgrades alone were destroyed, the virus would be rendered harmless and the effects would wear off. Only one reploid was saved through this method however. Signas was defeated at his base, located near Neo-London, however it was later discovered that Sigma played a part in this as well. While eight other rogue reploids were also in the war, the eight were in league with Sigma in a plan to enhance his own power and take over the reconstructed world. With the efforts of the Mavericks, including special upgrades for X, Zero, Magma Dragoon and Bahamut, Sigma was defeated one final time. The rise of the New Renaissance Five years after the Limited Maverick War, a strange string of events brought about the creation of a group calling themselves the New Renaissance. From their stand-point, they placed all blame for the years of conflicts on the entire reploid race and claimed that the only way for humanity to reach true peace would be to either destroy all reploids or exile them from Earth. Strangely enough, the group gained an incredible amount of support. Soon conflict was rising between followers of the NR and reploids and those who sided with the reploids. The entire movement struck the entire world and those in the two space colonies. The entire population seemed divided over the reploids, and the ones that still believed in them were out-numbered. The city created by Repliforce had encountered many problems from surrounding cities, including armed conflict, short of becoming a full-fledged war. These conflicts prevented them helping any of the reploids or humans not from the NR, so the protection of the innocent fell in the laps of Bahamut and the Maverick Hunters. Bahamut was seen as the central figure for the refugee protection. The Hunter bases stationed around the world soon became refugee camps for both humans and reploids alike. The only problem with this was that the bases were usually center for NR attacks and they suffered from food shortages. Many places including the Egypt Garden Facilities were able to supply the Hunters and refugees with supplies. Bahamut sat in his office looking over the reports that seem to flood his desk now. He sighed, “These radicals are making a mess of things, what could they have been thinking?” He grumbled and dropped the two hundred seventy-sixth report on the desk to stand up and stretch. He looked out the window at the sunset and the refugee shelters lit by the dying light. “What caused this to happen? Why does this have to happen, after all we have done?” He slumped down when a pair of arms came from behind and snuggled him. “You look so troubled, Bahamut, maybe you should stop now and relax.” Bahamut closed his eyes and smiled, bringing his hands up to clasp Tiamat’s. “I wish I could relax now, but this ‘New Renaissance’ group has caused all of us some major hell. If something isn’t done soon…the results could be disastrous.” On too many accounts, the hunters faced problems with activity from humans and reploids. Too many reports of “Maverick attacks” when it really was the humans who were behind the attacks. A line had been crossed, and right now, the Hunters can’t do a thing. Tiamat sighed with Bahamut and laid her head on his back. “And it had to happen now, didn’t it? When we’re about to take such a large step…” “We can still do it Tiamat, it’s just that we can’t complete it now.” He stood up and looked into her eyes. “Don’t worry, there isn’t a thing that will stop this from happening.” Tiamat smiled and hugged him. “Thank you Bahamut.” She stood up again. “Well, just don’t over do it, we don’t need the leader suffering from anything.” She smiled and left the office. Bahamut sighed and turned his gaze back outside. “There might be only one way to stop this…” At the start of NR attacks, many hunters had left, including Megaman X and Magma Dragoon, so the number of leaders and figures were growing short, and the future for the reploids was becoming bleak. Bahamut walked into the building and looked around. It was a cozy little place, almost unusual to find a modern house far in the Appalachian Mountains. He took a seat on one of the sofas and looked at the newspaper that was lying there. “Well this is a pleasant surprise.” Bahamut stood up and looked towards the stairs to see X coming down, dressed in causal clothing. Bahamut smiled and bowed his head. “It is good to see you again X. I hope things are well for you.” X smiled. “As well as can be. Things are rather difficult now with this war the New Renaissance has created.” He walked to the second sofa across from the one Bahamut was at and took a seat. “I have the feeling that your visit isn’t a casual one.” Bahamut sighed and took his seat. “Not really, and it might be difficult to explain this…” X shook his head and looked at Bahamut. “I’m sorry Bahamut, but I’m not coming back. I feel I spent too much time with the hunters, and now, how can one fight if the people you are trying to protect don’t want you around.” Bahamut stared down at the center table. “I know X, believe me I know. This is getting harder and harder every day, and every day I have to face the difficult task of finding a resolution to this. I don’t know why everyone chose me for this, it’s incredibly difficult to protect anyone when the ones out to harm everyone is human. Things aren’t the same as they use to be.” X didn’t reply, but Bahamut continued, looking straight at him, “X…I’m asking you to come back, but not as a hunter, rather as a protector, a defender.” X returned Bahamut’s look, only this one was of confusion. “What do you mean? Bahamut, what are you thinking?” Bahamut sighed and closed his eyes. “X, there may be only one way for us to find a peaceful solution to this, and I will need your help, as well as everyone else’s. X, maybe now it is time we create your dream…it’s becoming our dream…” One year had passed since the conflict created by the New Renaissance, and Bahamut made an announcement to the world, one that would change everything. Every screen in the world was suddenly interrupted: “People of the world, I am Bahamut, leader of an organization known as the Maverick Hunters, the same organization that protected both humans and reploids from the threat that had plagued us since our appearance in 21XX. However, our task has become increasingly difficult due to activities by the organization the New Renaissance. They have made claims that the causes of the past Maverick Wars and many other problems were caused by the reploids, and they have grown in great number that threatens not only the entire reploid race, but also the humans that still believe in our kind. In the past year, we have seen too much fighting, and there is only one solution that can avoid a full-scale world war. This goes out to every reploid and human that still believes in our kind; we are threatened by the same enemy and I offer you a chance to help create a new home for us. The journey will be long and it will not be easy, but I can promise that we will no longer face the difficulties here on Earth. Through the vastness of space, we will create a world that both the humans and the reploids can coexist without worry of war or prejudice. We plan to start this journey in two months. Those who wish to join us are to report to the stations across the world and prepare for the long trek.” The response was immense and hundreds of reploids and humans joined in the journey into space. The journey The fleet that left Earth had journeyed for six months until they reached their destination, the planet Mars. No one knew what Bahamut had planned; a good number of Hunters were also left in the dark, until the fleet reached their destination. X entered the bridge of the lead vessel and looked around, recognizing a good number of those here: Zero, Dragoon, Axle, Alia and Bahamut. The main screen showed the surface of the red planet. X was puzzled. “Bahamut, we have been traveling for months, and yet we have no idea what you have planned. What are we going to do here?” “I have to agree with X,” Zero said, “Mars is pretty much lifeless, we can’t really use it, and I’m sure the people that came with us won’t be too thrilled by this.” Bahamut glanced back at the group. “You shouldn’t worry too much, guys. I’ll explain what I have planned soon…” As soon as he said that, there was beep from the communication station. Alia pushed a button and looked to Bahamut. “They’re hailing us, sir. They report that they have us on sensors.” Bahamut nodded and approached the comm. “Elysium One, this is Leader One, we should be seeing you soon, stand by for instructions and boarding procedures.” He stood up and looked at the group; it seemed that the group was shocked at the mention of the name. “Elysium…”said Zero, glancing at X. “Elysium…X…isn’t that…” X nodded and looked to Bahamut. “Yes, my dream. So this is what you meant, Bahamut.” The dragon nodded. “The utopia for both humans and reploids. The chances for its creation back on Earth are no more, so this was the last option opened.” Axle crossed his arms. “So you just plan for us to try to create something here on this rock?” Alia answered for Bahamut. “The station is now in view sir.” The group was puzzled again and approached the viewer and looked at the huge space station that had come into view from the planet’s far side. “Wow, that’s huge!” said Zero. “The station was originally intended for research of the planet in preparation for a colonization of planet. That’s why I brought us here. The station is more than big enough to house everyone, and the technology and research for planetary stations is already in preparation. It may take sometime before we can start the creation of the first colony, but at least it’s something.” The group gazed out to the station and the planet it orbited. Another large task stood in front of them, but it was the best thing for their survival. “We are now doing what we have claimed to be impossible time after time. With the help of everyone, humans and reploids, we can create our home, Elysium.” The station, known as Elysium One, had become the home for the people from Earth. As the people began the difficult task of living on the station, plans were already being formed and taking action for the first colony on the surface. The technology was already nearing completion when the fleet had arrived, and the first parts of the atmospheric dome shielding were being built. After two years, the dome was up and in place and the remaining construction was underway. Five years had passed since the fleet left Earth, and the completion of first colony was at hand. People had already moved from the station to the city. Spanning over two square miles and next to the canyon known as Coprates Minor, the colony -nicknamed Zenethia- was the first for a series of cities already in planning. Repliforce and several other smaller factions had made claims on several locations on Mars and they were quickly accepted. Repliforce’s city; named Citadel, has begun construction. The troubles begin Several months after the completion Citadel’s first stage of construction, strange events started to occur. The first was strange and incomplete messages from Earth, which no one has been able to interpret. Several weeks later, there were reports of strange ‘Maverick-like’ activity being reported in Zenethia, though they never escalated into full conflict. One month after the strange messages: Bahamut sat at the table where the officers had gathered. On the screen-like surface of the table, schematics and pictures were displayed, showing pictures of locations on Mars and the familiar look of the atmospheric dome shielding generators. Douglas stood up and pointed towards several parts of the schematics for another machine. “If we had a powerful source, we could enlarge the effects of the shielding. In theory, we could eliminate the dome and have the energy do the work for us. The atmospheric processor will still have a few things to clear up though.” “How much time and resources would be used for this?” asked Colonel Slash Beast, who sat across from him. “Our current resources are limited and we still need to create other atmospheric domes.” “Well, for the machine itself, it may take up enough materials for a small building, but since it doesn’t require the same materials for the shielding itself…” Just as Slash Beast was about to say something, alarms started to go off, sending the assembled to their feet. “Warning! Warning! Maverick activity has been confirmed! All personnel are to report to their stations! All civilians and work personnel should remain indoors. Bahamut, report to Command Central!” “What?! Mavericks?! Impossible!” Bahamut stood there for a second in disbelief, then ran out of the room. Bahamut entered the Command Center and ran to Alia at the main station. “Alia? What is happening? How can we have any kind of Maverick activity?!” “I don’t know all the details yet, sir, but we have received reports from eight different locations of Maverick Activity.” She brought up a screen to show the locations and images of the Mavericks. Bahamut couldn’t believe it, after all the work and progress, a reploid going Maverick here was simply improbable. A few moments later, the commanders of the new Hunters, or Defense Force, entered the Command Center. Bahamut sighed and looked down at the assembled. X looked up and saw his worried look, “What is it Bahamut? What is going on?” He sighed, “We seem to be going back to basics. We have eight confirmed sightings of Mavericks.” “Mavericks?” asked Bolt. “This is something we never really expected. Do we have enough hunters to stop the threat?” “I hope so,” said X. “If not, then…” “Then we only have one real choice.” Bahamut said, finishing his sentence. A new world, a new home, a new hope. The call for Hunters has gone out for the protection of Elysium. |
