![]() The ForestQuite a ride, huh? This is Forest Island. Hop out of the vehicle (called a "mag-lev") and check out your surroundings. To the right, on the rocky wall, you will spy an eye. Approach it, and if you dare, touch it! It will spin in its socket, you will see a symbol of some kind on its backside (looks like a "KI") and if you have sound, you will hear a "chirp" of some kind. Make a mental note of the "KI", and that sound, because you will need to know them later. Turn around and head up the stairs in the cliff face. You will come upon a junction of staircases. For now, take the right-hand staircase up the cliff. You'll hit a bridge. To the left, you'll see another monster-sized weapon embedded in a rock. Curious. Head across the bridge, and follow the path towards a clearing of tree stumps and another junction. Take a right, and then a quick left towards a wooden door. Head through the door, into the forest. Did you spot the beetle on the doorframe? Click on it for a beautiful animation! And listen carefully. Head down the path, down some stairs and deep into the forest. You will pass through a tree and come across some bluish plants. Turn left, and you should see another huge dagger embedded in the rock. Head towards it, and you should find another "eyeball" in the rock, illuminated by a custom-made mini-dagger. Touch it, and you'll see a symbol on the back (upside-down "L"), and hear a sound something like a seal or walrus barking. Take notes, and then head back to the path and into another tree, where you'll find a junction. Take the right, and head down some stairs and into an interesting orange-lit area with a big statue of what looks like (surprise!) a big fish with tusks. Take some time to explore the area around the fish totem. See the huge stump it stands on? Interesting that the statue’s creator saw it more fit to make a big scary fish statue than to leave a 1000-year-old tree intact. Environmentalists, don’t quit just yet. There ARE morals to this story, and if you’re lucky, the good guys can still win. Did you click on everything, just to see what it would do? If not, try clicking on the two round lights on posts near the entrance to the fish altar. One of the two holds the key to the secret of the fish totem. If you need help, check the side note accompanying this section Enter the fish totem’s mouth (while all the time thinking of the symbolism of that act…) and you will find yourself in a small elevator with a lever and blue button like the one that summoned the mag-lev on the first island. For now, ignore the blue button, and pull the lever in an upward motion. You will ride the elevator up to a metal walkway. See the big dome? You’re close enough to check it out! Proceed forward, and at a junction, make a left. Examine the dome up close, and see the circular symbols, one of which appears to be painted yellow, as they spin by. Pass right around the dome, and up a set of stairs to a little gold dome-room with what almost look like tombstones surrounding it. Open the door and enter the room. Nice throne. Nice tusked-fish skeleton. Have a seat, and pull the left-hand lever. Up you go! You get a gorgeous view of Forest Island, and an overhead shot of some kind of cliff dwellings. Look down, and spot a lagoon, with strange “holes” in the water, and a large ringed platform in the foreground. Pull the right-hand lever and watch as the hole in the center of the platform fills in with some solid material. Any idea what that apparatus is for? From the look of the skulls on the top part of it, it can’t be good. After enjoying the view, pull the left-hand lever and take the ride back down. Exit the throne, open the door, and leave the room. Head back down the stairs and past the dome until you get to a junction. Head left at the junction and walk along the metal walkway until you come upon a small metal device with a view of the dome. Peer through the eyepiece of this “viewer” and you will see a magnification of the symbols on the dome--they look like expanding and contracting eyeballs. One appears to be yellow. There is a button on top of the “viewer”. Click it, and nothing happens. Try clicking it a few times. Nothing. Try clicking when the picture in the eyepiece is the yellow one. Bingo! The viewer sputters and slows, then stops with a view of the yellow picture in the eyepiece. Take a note of the picture (an open eye in a circle) and the fact that you got the symbol on Forest Island. You may need that information later. Amazingly, the dome across the way is now partly open! Head back to the dome, and peek inside. You’ll see a set of metal sliders, and a button. Through a pane, you can see what looks like a book, but you can’t make out more. You can play with the sliders and the button, which look like some kind of locking mechanism, but since there are millions of possible combinations, you may want to snoop around and find the right combo somewhere else first. Head back to the elevator, and take it back down. Pull the lever on the left, and open the fish’s mouth so you can pop out. Head back up the stairs to the tree junction. Take the right-hand path in the tree, head up some stairs, and out another wooden door. BUSTED! Some guy in a tower sounds a warning as he spots you coming through the door. Wonder who he was warning. Take the path to the right (the one to the left heads back to the stumps) and you will enter a cave lit with blue lights. On the left-hand wall, you can see a pictograph of a man with a star over his head (presumably Gehn) holding two hapless natives by their feet, just out of reach of two hungry-looking tusked beasts. The plot thickens.
