Part 8
Hello, people. I hope that now we are hosted at HL.net, there is a whole new bunch of people out there reading this. And yes, it is worth looking at the past diaries, cos it may give you an idea of what it is like to develop the closest most of us will get to a game. The whole thing was inspired by Demis Hassabi’s diary in EDGE magazine (which he has now stopped due to pressures at work), so when I realised how much I miss the insight, I thought I might as well give others that insight. Now, don’t get me wrong. I am not trying to compare myself to Demis, as he is the gaming god (creator of Theme-Park, and founder of the company making Republic- The Revolution, a game which makes use of an infinite polygon engine), but what I am trying to do is help those who need it, enlighten those in the dark, and basically offer something not a lot, if any, other mod sites offer you. This last period of time (this diary is erratically written, not regularly) has been hectic, as has become the norm around here. I finished my A-levels, and am awaiting the results on the 17th of August. Any emails of ‘good luck’ or other such encouragement would be vastly appreciated (especially from my team, but I don’t think they read this, so we’ll see!)!! Also, I have been on a two-week holiday to San Francisco, with friends of the family, and that was great. A sort of Happy 18th birthday and graduation present, really. In case you were wondering, I was 18 today- the 27th of July. That makes me a Leo, and according to a mug of mine at home, “A Born Leader”. We shall see about that. As far as the mod goes, me being in the USA didn’t stop my talented underlings from working very hard indeed. Mappers are working, but slowly. They promise me that it is because they are perfecting every small bit of their creations- I believe them, and relate to this, as I am an artist myself! I have not done a lot (after all it was a holiday), but I managed to recruit about 2 or 3 new members. Robry is a crosshair artist, Lord Phobos will be skinning our guns, and Skitz is a beta tester and texture artist. So good news there then. Other existing members have been good too. Models are coming along nicely, both in animation and creation, whilst my guns are being animated too, at a consistently excellent rate. Also, anyone else I forgot is, I’m sure, working hard! On a final personal note, I am working on a script for a sci-fi series, so that gives you and idea of how committed I am to the narrative content of this mod. Also, Xatrix so working on a one-off film sci-fi script…maybe he’ll put up a taster for ya, if you ask nicely on the forum, that is!
