The Golden days of RPG's

Around 1980 until the mid-eighties the RPG's sold tremondously. D&D sold millions of games world wide. And games were coming out for all sort of genres. Lord of the Rings was made into a game with Middle-Earth Role Playing and became popular at the time, as well as a few superhereo games also began to appear.

TSR hit a slump in the late eighties, with having a glut in the stores of gaming product and an economy that was failing. Call of Cthulhu, a horror game with rules for insanity, was one of the bright spots during these years.
