To get involved in extracurricular activities, keep your eyes peeled for information about clubs and sports meetings. Before school starts, you
should receive a packet of information and/or calendar, which can give you an idea of when the first meeting will be held. Be sure to listen to
announcements at the start or end of each school day for more information. You can also watch the school’s television monitors for more
information.

Clubs and Activities

Amnesty International: Group of students who write letters to officials of other countries regarding human rights.
Art Club: Students have the opportunity to work on personal projects and school activities.
Bicycle Club: Meetings are held to discuss bike repair and racing. The group bikes together and attends bike races.
Biology Club: Activities include field trips, lectures, etc about biological nature.
Blood Drive: Students volunteer their time to sponsor two Red Cross Blood Drives.
Chamber Singers: Small ensemble made up of students who participate in chorus.
Citizen Bee Team: Comprised of three students who compete for regional, state and national honors in the fields of Geography, U.S.
History, Economics, Government and Current Events.
Computer Team: Regional and national competition where students have to demonstrate programming skills, etc.
Drama: Open to students interested in acting, set design, costumes, makeup, lighting, dance and music. The Drama Club has at least one
annual production.
Environmental Club: Students have the opportunity to learn about the environment through camping trips, canoeing and rock climbing, while
promoting environmental ethics.
Explores Club: Activities include hiking, camping, cross-country, skiing, whale watching and canoeing. The club promotes a better
understanding of the environment.
French Exchange Club: Sponsors the biannual exchange between the Lyee Edouard Herriot in Tryes, France and E.O. Smith students.
Future Farmers of America: Promotes agricultural leadership, cooperation and citizenship.
Gay-Straight Alliance: Promotes understanding between gay and straight students. Presentations, films, conferences, etc are held for
students and teachers at E.O. Smith.
German Exchange Club: Promotes understanding of the German language and culture. E.O. Smith students sponsor an exchange with
Goethe Gymnasium In Emmendigen, Germany.
Horticulture Club: Activities involve garden design, seasonal floral crafts and building terrariums and topiaries.
International Association: This club sponsors regional, internationally based cultural events.
Jazz Band: Students perform in school concerts and jazz festivals each year.
JETS Team (Junior Engineering Technical Society): Competition that challenges and reinforces students’ academic skills, while
emphasizing Engineering, Technology, Mathematics and Science.
Latin Club: Sponsors a trip to Italy for Sophomore-Senior Latin students.
Math Team: Students practice and compete for selection in local, state and regional team competitions.
Multicultural Awareness Club: Promotes awareness of similarities and differences between all cultures.
Mock Trial Competition: Activity where students are trained to research a legal case submitted by Superior Court Judges.
Model UN: Students have the opportunity to become delegates from different countries. Through research, direct talks with UN delegates
and the writing of proposals/resolutions that represent the interests of their country, they have an opportunity to gain an understanding of world
issues.
National Honor Society: Membership is open to all juniors and seniors who maintain a 4.5 average on a 6.0 scale. The selected students
support the school, local charities, the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, etc.
Oracle: The Oracle is the school newspaper. Writers, photographers and graphic artists are wanted!
Science Club: Students develop science demonstrations and experiments for younger grades.
Ski Club: Students are given the opportunity to ski with peers at various New England slopes.
Social Justice Organization: Gives students the opportunity to learn about themselves, discuss issues about homelessness, AIDS, etc and
reach out to those in need throughout the world.
Spanish Exchange Club: Promotes interest in the Spanish language and culture. Sponsors the Spanish Exchange Program with students from
Costa Rica.
Student Congress: Promotes student involvement throughout E.O. Smith through homeroom representatives that keep the lines of
communication open between the student body and administration.
TECH Student Association: Promotes technological literacy, leadership and problem solving opportunities. Student may experiment with
computer design, robotics, computer animation and more!
VIRTU: Virtu is the literary magazine of E.O. Smith. Students involved are interested in creative writing, art and publishing.
Yearbook: This is a yearlong project! Members can participate by fundraising, writing, taking pictures or designing art for the yearbook.
