Q. How long are class periods?
A. On average, class periods are 56 minutes long with the exception of the lunch period (F period), which is an hour broken up into three
20-minute lunch periods.
Q. Is there good food?
A. The cafeteria food is pretty good! E.O. Smith’s state-of-the-art cafeteria – “Smithies” – opened April 5, 1999 and has since put an end to
the stereotypical “cafeteria food.” There are also vending machines outside of the cafeteria if you wish to buy some snacks and drinks.
Q. What are the teachers like?
A. The teachers are enthusiastic, caring, and always willing to help their students.
Q. Do students get lost a lot?
A. Not usually! If you happen to have trouble finding your classroom don’t be afraid to ask a teacher or upper classmen to help you out!
Better yet, you can prevent getting lost by referring to the school map!
Q. Do you get lots of homework?
A. Now that you are entering high school, you should expect more homework. For many courses homework is an important and required part
of the class and is assigned everyday.
Q. How much time do we have to go to our lockers?
A. There is a five-minute passing time between each period, with the exception of the passing time before F period, which is four-minutes. You
may use this time to use your locker. Just be sure you are on time to class!
Q. What is Freshman Orientation like? Is it helpful?
A. Freshmen Orientation is a great way for you to figure out where your classes will be. It is usually held a week before school starts. You and
a group of students will be given a tour of E.O. Smith by upperclassmen who will answer any questions you may have. You should bring your
schedule and a map of the school to familiarize yourself with your new “home.”
Q. How early do we have to get up to catch the bus?
A. It all depends on where you live. Keep in mind that school begins at 7:25 in the morning, which means you probably have to get up earlier.
Bus schedules are usually posted in the newspaper or you can call your middle school for the times.
