The information for freshmen that want to be "in the know"!
Around and About
-If you have to leave your class, study hall etc, be sure you have a pass.
-Most teachers have designated bathroom, guidance and nurse passes for you to use. If you need a pass elsewhere, just ask, a teacher will be
happy to write one out for you.
-Passes give you access to school facilities such as the Library Media Center and various computer labs.
-All doors leading into the school are locked except for the main-entrance.
-All doors leading outside the school are alarmed except for the main-entrance.
-If you need something from the main office, wait patiently at the counter for someone to help you. Do not go around the counter.
-There are television monitors in every classroom and throughout E.O. Smith. They usually display important information about the school
schedule (such as X periods), sports, clubs, upcoming activities, etc.
It’s Okay to Eat, BUT-
-Do not eat or drink in the hallways, Library Media Center, computer labs, language lab, guidance office, locker rooms or gyms.
-Some teachers do not mind if you eat in their classroom, just ask permission first.
Be Heard!
-If there are issues you would like to bring up about school, you can talk with any Student Congress Member. The best time to do this would
be during Homeroom on Tuesdays.
-If you would like to voice your opinion on any matter, you can write to the editors of the school newspaper, the Oracle.
Remember Your Responsibilities
-Take care of all school property.
-Cover your school books.
-If you miss school have your parents verify your absence by calling the attendance line (487-0877) or writing you a note to give to the main
office the day your return.
-It is your responsibility to go to your teacher and find out what you missed and need to make up.
-If you miss one day of school, you have one day to complete your makeup work.
-If you miss two to three days of school you have two days to makeup work.
-If you miss four to five days of school you have three days to makeup work.
-If you miss six or more days you need to make an arrangement with your teacher to makeup work.

-It is important that you follow the Internet guidelines and do not abuse your responsibility. (Refer to the “Internet Use Guidelines and Access
Agreement” in the Pantherama.)
Break Time!
-There are three lunch waves and the class you have during F determines which lunch period you have.
-If you want to buy lunch plan on spending two to three dollars.
-There is an assortment of food to chose from; pizza, grinders, mozzarella sticks, salad, bagels, soup, wraps, french-fries, sandwiches and
much more.
-As you enter the cafeteria; you enter the snack bar through the entrance to your left.
-Pay for your food at any of the three cash registers.
-Exit the snack bar after the cash registers—not by the way you entered.
-There is a “Fixin’s” center to your left (after you exit the snack bar) with napkins, utensils and “the works.”
-You can eat anywhere in the cafeteria or outside on the patio if you would like.
-Always clean up after yourself!
Don’t be Late!
-Be on time to class!
-If you are tardy to class two to four times your teacher may give you a detention.
-If you are constantly tardy to class; your teacher will report you to the administration for further disciplinary action.
Are You Ready for School?
-Come prepared to class.
-Always have the proper supplies for your class; pencils, pens, calculator, paper and/or your notebook.
-All of your teachers will require you to keep an organized notebook.
-Most teachers will periodically check your notebook and grade your organization.
-Notebook checks may count as a quiz grade!
-Never throw your work away!
-After a quarter ends, it is usually okay to “clean-out” your notebook. Check with your teacher first!
-Save old work as a study guide for midyear and final exams.
Midyear and Final Exams
-Midyear and Final Exams are given in all courses and more information is handed out before the exams.
-Midyear exams will test you on all the information you learned throughout the first and second quarter.
-Final exams will test you on all of the information you learned throughout the third and fourth quarter.
-Semester courses will cover all the information covered throughout both quarters.
-Most teachers will prepare you for the exams, but do not expect your teachers to review or make you a study guide.
