Ty Carl Buffington September 6th Update

Ty had a very good week! His Ree Ree and Papaw Ricky came to see him on Friday! He got to see them the whole weekend! His favorite was when they held him! He really loved that! Since they were here for 3 days, he really got a chance to show out for them! He looked all around and smiled. He just loved seeing them and getting to know them some more. Hopefully next time they get to see him, we’ll be at home with him and out of this hospital!

Ty is getting really big! He’s just a hair shy of 3 lbs. He’ll get there soon and should just keep gaining weight! His feedings are up to 22ccs every 3 hours, and he loves to eat!

Some of the most exciting news is that the doctors decided to try him on a CPAP. This is a different type of ventilator. They took out the breathing tube that went in his throat and put one in his nose. It’s supposed to be gentler and as long as he responds well to it, then it will give him a chance to start healing his lungs. It can take a while to get used to, and hopefully he is ready for it. His first night on it was pretty good, not great, but pretty good.

He’s still clear of any infection, and we hope to keep him that way! In the pictures you can see that we have to be very cautious with him. We have to wear paper gowns and gloves to protect him from anything that we might bring in that could make him sick. As long as we can keep him healthy then he should continue to grow and improve. Premature babies haven’t developed an immune system yet and they are so small, so that any infection that they get can wipe them out. They just don’t have the reserve energy like we do.
