Lindsay Marie Buffington September 6th Update

Hello! Lindsay had a great week! She was so happy when her Ree Ree and Papaw Ricky got here! She was a little shy at first, but eventually she opened her eyes and looked at them. She got to be held by both of them and was so happy!

She is growing up fast! She’s 2 months old and finally over 5 lbs! When you think that a lot of babies are born and get to go home at 5 lbs, it gives you hope. But our problems are a little different. Since they were born so early, their lungs weren’t ready to have to breathe yet. So they were put on the ventilators which actually damages their lungs. But it keeps them alive. So even though she is 5 lbs, her lungs are in such poor shape that it will be a while longer before we are allowed to take her home.

She was put on the CPAP and has been doing pretty good with it. This new ventilator has the breathing tube in her nose not in her throat. She tried one about a month ago and did ok for a couple of days before they had to intubate her again, but now that she’s bigger they really think that she’s ready for it this time! Hopefully this gentler type of ventilator will allow her lungs to heal so we can take her home.

We are still looking at a couple of months before we get to take her home, but we are hoping to get them both at home by Christmas! That’s our Christmas wish! Hopefully it’ll come true!

We have to wear the gowns and gloves with Lindsay too. It’s just too risky to chance giving them any bugs right now! They are at an important point in their lives and we have to keep them healthy!!
