Peace In The Valley

The woman downstairs screams
like a paper doll being ripped
into strips, and two hearts are being
driven into the walls with nails,
the man downstairs screams
like the house itself is convulsing
and its innards may come spilling
through the doors and windows,
I am upstairs writing
like a weak god observing a natural
disaster-
I’ve seen this before but I don’t know
what happens
and I’m not sure
I want to.



Myths

The myth of the lemming
was a smear invented by Disney
in the interests of a documentary, they were herded over a cliff
now the lemming is known for being prone to suicidal urges
and easily being press-ganged into population purges.

The myth of the Cyclops
was invented by the Greeks
who had an erudite fascination for the gods of their imagination
and somehow by giving him a single eye, it rendered him more human
a hard blink is a wink for our one-eyed friend and he lived as their
delusion.

Two million polled Americans
have been abducted by UFOs
collected, inspected, enlightened, accepted; a life as Spielberg might
have
directed
and the aliens are so powerful, yet sneaky and nervous, too
if I was an American and always watching CNN, then what else could I
do?

Damian Devine was a friend of mine
and he spoke of the Six Trucks of
the Apocalypse, the trucks will converge during a solar eclipse,
in every lane, at its weakest point, in the middle of the bridge
and one day it will collapse into the river, cars and all.

I was in love once
just like the song
and everything rhymed
and we all sang along
and it felt like little wings
were beating around my head
it never felt like it was meant to.


Anthony Gee is 33 years old and resides in a tourist trap on the East Coast of Australia, the Gold Coast to be precise. It's where the cast of Neighbours end up when they're written out of the show.
