What Causes Breast Cancer?

The cause of breast cancer is unknown, but studies show that certain risk factors increase the chance that breast cancer might occur.

These are some of the factors that increase the likelihood of breast cancer:

Gender:  99% of all breast cancer is found in women.

Age:  Risk of breast cancer increases with age.  Breast cancer is uncommon in women <35 years of age; the greatest risk is for women aged 50-60.

Race:  Breast Cancer occurs more often in White women than in Black, Hispanic, or Asian women.

Family History:  If your mother, sister, or other close, female relative has suffered from breast cancer, this increases your risk factors for developing breast cancer.

Radiation:  Women who have had significant exposure to radiation at a young age.

Late Childbearing:  Women who had their first child after the age of 30.
