MINUTES OF THE COASTAL ALLIANCE BARONIAL MEETING

The meeting was opened at approximately 11:15 by Lord Jehan-Franc. Thanks were given to all those that attended the meeting and a special thanks to Lord Christopher Storm and Lady Kat for making their home available for the meeting.

The first topic of business was the unofficial polling results. The unofficial word from Lord Corwyn was that the percentage was not up to what was expected, but due to the fact that it was almost unanimous everything looked good and was forwarded to their Majesties for adjudication.

It was announced that Lord Calledon and Lady Vendla would be doing the newsletter. We discussed the frequency of the newsletter and agreed to a schedule of every two months for publication. This schedule may allow some things to be passed faster by word of mouth, but will allow all to get the word and talk to your seneschal concerning matters within the newsletter. Further, we discussed and all present agreed to sending the newsletter electronically through e-mail for those that have the capability and through the U.S. mail for those who do not. Alric should be able to do up a Web site.

At our last meeting it was suggested that we check with someone in Heraldry to look over our designs and let us know what would and would not pass. Lady Caroline and Lady Patricia checked with Lady Jaella. (Those that would be workable can be found in this issue.) Also, the names were checked and the possible suggestions will be with the devices.

Having checked with the appropriate laws and policy, we found there to be six great offices that need to be filled for the barony. At this time we took nominations for these positions. If any other people are interested in one of these offices, or those nominated not interested, please contact your seneschal. The positions and those nominated may be found on another page within this issue. Further, we discussed the term of office for all positions and it was agreed to stay with two year terms. At that time new nominations will be taken. If no nominees, than we would go with a vote of confidence if the incumbent will stay.

The next item that we discussed was on past events and the various upcoming events – those in our area as well as those outside our area. 13th Night, held by Cathanar, was well attended. The feast was very well

done, kudos to Lady Margaleet. The gift exchange was a lot of fun and there were some very nice gifts. Ymir was normal; cold, rainy, and very muddy. Safety won out and the fighting was cancelled. Those that stayed still had fun just visiting with old friends and making new friends. As to upcoming events, Lord Calledon talked about Raiders of the Lost Cove II on 11 March at Marston Pavilion on Camp Lejeune and a Boy Scout demo being held on 25 March at the old Lowe’s building in Jacksonville. Lady Tessa talked about Sheep Raids at Poplar Groves on 29 April. Lady Tessa is looking for help so if you can spare an hour or two, please let her know. On 17 June there is a Coastal Champion Tournament for heavy fighters and duelists. Only Coastal fighters will be eligible to be champion. For the heavy fighters all fighting will be with an axe of some type. Lady Caroline mentioned that we, as Coastal Alliance, were asked to host the September War College. Boat Wars was mentioned for the 15th of April. It was discussed about the NF rating for Boat Wars which means No Fighting. Everyone agreed that surely it was a typo. Lord Calledon mentioned the possibility of another demo for the Relay for Life event on the 15th of April. Coronation on 1 April at Camp Kanata and Crown Tourney in the Richmond area on 6 May were discussed as to having a group presence.

Sir Robert talked about forming a baronial group for fighting at various events where there is melee combat available. Sheep Raids would be the first opportunity for both heavy and rapier. We discussed and agreed to the making of tabards for all our fighter types to wear.

The floor was turned over to Lady Kat for the discussing of gift basket items for Gulf Wars. Previously there were some concerns about having single or double items not being used. Lady Kat contacted the POC for Gulf War Gift Baskets person and was assured that all items would be used. It was further mentioned that now is the time to start working on gift items for the upcoming Pennsic Wars.

The final topic of the meeting was the setting of our next populace meetings. The next meeting was to be held in Seareach; however, it was suggested that Raven’s Cove host the meeting and regional fighter practice on Sunday, 12 March, after Raiders. Then Seareach could host the meeting and regional fighter practice on Sunday, 30 April, after Sheep Raids. Everyone present agreed to this suggestion and the meeting time for both dates was set to 1:00 pm.

There being no further topics to discuss the meeting was adjourned at approximately 1:50.
