Corrections, clarifications and general fuck-ups

I, Jane, have never been someone who claims to get everything right all the time. In fact, lately it seems as though I get things right roughly half the time. I've decided to make a page for my corrections and clarifications, so you can see them all in one place and laugh at/with me.

From the "stop allocating careers" department:

Ian McDuff is a historian, not an English teacher. And the worst part is that he'll remember the year in which we said that.

From the "they're just not paying attention" department:

It was a bleak day in CABS history when I confused two whole stories in the CABS 2000 Awards. For "most original story," I selected a Buffy story in which Xander receives anal stimulation from Angel's spiked hair. I said this story was Nancy-Boy Hair Gel by Kate Bolin when it was, in fact, Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific by Woodinat.

From the "gender confusion" department:

We also did not know that James Walkswithwind is female and that James is, I believe, her given name. We referred to her as male. James, wherever you are, I humbly apologize.

From the "be more specific" department:

Someone wrote in to say that our definition of "fanon" in the slash glossary was too narrow. She provided us with a much better definition, which we used to replace our own.

From the "buy a damn dictionary" department:

In the first year of our existence, we frequently mispelled the following names:
Alex Krycek
Ray Vecchio
Qui-Gon
Kate Bolin

From the "learn to make a web site" department:

For the first two or three days that it was online, the Get Feedback for Your Story article linked to an old page, complete with the old black and white header, of feedback our site had received.

From the "you don't know from boy bands" department:

We do not know how to spell 'N Sync. We have used "'N Sync" as a general rule, although it has been brought to my attention that this is the spelling used before their break up with their manager. I've seen it as 'NSync, *NSync, *NSYNC, *N SYNC and 'N SYNC. I admit it. I don't know how to spell it. The group is referred to on this site as 'N Sync, and if this is incorrect, we'll live with it.

From the "Irving Welsh would kill you" department:

In one of Virginia's rants, she talks about the impossibilities of Curt Wild from Velvet Goldmine meeting Mark Renton from Trainspotting, since Trainspotting takes place in the 90s. A CABS reader and ardent Trainspotting fan e-mailed to say that Trainspotting takes place in the late 70s and early 80s. We stand corrected. But we still don't like the pairing.

If you see us get someone's name wrong, refer to the wrong story, fail to get our facts straight when it comes to a fandom detail or think we should have elaborated on something or linked to a site we didn't, feel free to let us know at citizensagainstbs@angelfire.com. This site is all about encouraging constructive criticism, and it would be wrong if we didn't welcome it with this site, especially since we're trying to keep about 100 fandoms straight.
