There are a variety of disabilities for which Participation House Brantford provides support to those affected.

Listed below is some general information on two prevalant disablilities.


  • C.P. - Cerebral Palsy -
  • is a term used to describe a group of disorders affecting body movements and muscle co-ordination. The medical definition of C.P. is a non-progessive but not unchanging disorder of movement and/or posture, due to an insult to or anomaly of the developing brain.
    The effects of C.P. vary widely from individual to individual. At its mildest, C.P. may result in a slight awkwardness of movement or hand control. At its most severe, C.P. may result in virtually no muscle control, profoundly affecting movement and speech.

  • M.S. - Multiple Sclerosis -
  • is a disease of the central nervous sytstem. M.S. interrupts the proper conduction of impulses from the brain which stops the ability to control walking, talking, seeing and other important functions.

    General Information:
    Population served - adults 16 to 65 with physical disAbilities.
    10 Bell Lane opened in June 1978
    11 West Street - Community Living Project - opened in 1985
    Attendant Outreach Program began in March 1988

    Participation House offers:
  • Supportive housing in a residential setting
  • Supportive housing in private apartments
  • and Attendant Outreach Service for those who reside in their own home
