Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE)
 
      The very fact that this law exists speaks volumes about the effect Operation Rescue was
having on the abortion industry. This law's sole purpose is to stop one group of people
from saving babies' lives. Rescuing was effective; this cannot be argued. However FACE has been successful, "rescuing" of the unborn has stopped.
      Keeping in line with the theme of this newsletter, I ask this question: Would a FACE law
have stopped our Founding Fathers? Would they have stopped saving babies if a law was enacted that made it
a federal crime to do so? I dare say the answer is no. It really is a simple question to answer if you know
anything of these men and women.
      One only need look at what the signers of the Declaration of Independence risked and lost. How did that document
end? With these words, "And for the support of this declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence,
we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor." If these men were willing to risk all they
had, would they risk a little jail time to save a life? Let's look a little further into what drove these people.
      Some of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence also worked on the Constitution of this great land. The
Constitution opens with these words, ""We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish
justice, insure domestic tranquillity, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of
liberty to ourselves and our posterity..." This document was for them and for those yet to be born. So what they had fought and died for
was also for the unborn of the future. I have to ask myself again and again, why were they so willing to risk all and we seem so
unwilling to risk anything? We live in a land won with the blood of patriots, while we stand by and watch as "our posterity"
is systematically slaughtered.
      Samuel West had this to say in his sermon, On The Right To Rebel, "It is an indispensable duty, my brethren, which we owe to
God and our country, to rouse up and bestir ourselves, and being animated with a noble zeal for the sacred cause of liberty, to
defend our lives and fortunes, even to the shedding the last drop of blood. The love of our country, the tender affection that
we have for our wives and children, that we ought to have for unborn posterity, yea, everything that is dear and sacred, do now
loudly call upon us to use our best endeavors to save our country." Once again we see the term "unborn posterity". These people
seemed to feel a real obligation to future generations. What sense of duty do we feel to those yet unborn?
      Am I calling for outright rebellion as those who wrote the above did? No, but I fear we have wandered so far from the
beliefs and convictions of those who established this great land that we are at a lost as to what to do. We need to turn off
our televisions and read! We need to study what was taught to those who came before us. We need to reclaim our heritage and
teach it to our children. We need to beg God for forgiveness. By our inaction, we desecrate this hollowed ground on which we
live. We live in the nation that has touched more for Christ than any other. Yet, we sit back and do nothing as our "unborn
posterity" are murdered. Our Founders would not have stopped with FACE. They show with their words and actions that
they held all life to be created by God and protected by His laws!
      I close with the words of that great Christian man and patriot, Patrick Henry, "It is in vain, sir to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, peace
peace! but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the
clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would
they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God!
I know not what course others may take, but as for me: Give me liberty, or give me death!"
