The meeting was called to order by President Michael Daly with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for deceased members.
Michael asked any members attending our meeting for the first time to stand so that we could welcome them to our association. Matt Sasso, who taught at Newfield High School, announced that he was attending for the first time and everyone welcomed him with a round of applause.
Michael welcomed Marie Lewis as our new Treasurer She read the financial report for September and October and commented that it is nice to see our CD growing. A motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made, seconded and approved.
Joan O’Grady announced that Georgia Callas and Joan Abruzzo had passed away. Joan also announced that we now have 370 members in our Association.
In place of our November meeting twenty-seven members went to see Dracula. It was also decided that in place of our May meeting we would see a baseball game for old timers which was suggested by Michael Tangle.
Michael announced that we would like to invite the Superintendent of Schools to our March meeting so that we can ask questions concerning our health insurance. It is a possibility that we may have to declare as income what the district pays for our health insurance. However, we may be grandfathered in or be able to obtain a union waiver.
Also, this year in order to receive your Medicare reimbursement you must attach a copy of your Social Security statement (your benefit amount) to the survey that you receive from the District.
Michael announced that once again we will be giving scholarships to Newfield H.S. and Centereach H.S.
Joan announced that Nick DeCillis was inducted into the NYSPHS Hall of Fame. Nick is currently the Athletic Director of Physical Education in the Center Moriches School District.
- Michael suggested that we invite a guest to our Holiday luncheon and Joan suggested Mary Ponsiek who works in the Employee Benefits Office. Mary has helped many of our retirees who have questions regarding their benefits.
Rose Biscardi announced that we would be doing chair yoga after we finished our pizza lunch.
